For a small office, I think a flat fee ($50 to $350) is not too much. If I were the office manager/owner, I would expect an initial consultation and a formal proposal, including a drawing and paint samples, fabric samples, carpet samples, etc. I would be a very unsatisified customer if I paid $200 for a picture from a magazine paired with the suggestion to remove the current wallpaper and paint the walls blue. I think a large office would be leary to hire you because you do not have a license.

For a home, I think a rate of $15 to $25 / room for an in home consultation seems fair. I would still expect to see a semi-formal proposal or a drawing/floorplan and samples. You could also charge an hourly rate or a flat rate, depending on the homeowner. Many homeowners would be willing to pay just for a fresh perspective and for different ideas.

I threw my son one a few years back, and we used large boxes to make “booths”. One or two sides would be cut out and each would have a different game. Dart & Balloons (this depends on the age of the kids!), “milk-bottle” bean bag toss (can use the little water bottles filled with rice), win a goldfish (actually more inexpensive than you think-use different glasses, vases, bowls, etc.).

You can write the invitation on helium-filled balloons with a sharpie and let her invite kids from school or close by.

On a tight-budget? Cut out invitation on cardstock in the shapes of tents like “The Big Top”. You can fold it over. Use markers, glitter, fun sayings, “Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls, Dogs & Cats”. Let your daughter get involved-they will love it.

In English Country style, you’ll see fabrics with florals, especially roses, along with plaids and stripes. The colors are sometimes faded. French Country fabrics have saturated colors like brick red or golden yellow, and one common design is to have a small repeated element (maybe paisley, or a small bouquet) that is bordered by a color that makes it stand out from the background. Another common French design is toile, a solid color fabric with a drawing in a second color, repeated over and over. Occasionally toile is multi-colored.

French Country wood furniture has gently curved carvings, while English furniture has straighter lines. French furniture and accessories might have scrolled ironwork. English Country style features a lot of wicker furniture, and bamboo. Both will use cane. English upholstered furniture might have button tufting, turned legs and casters.

On the walls in an English room, you’ll find framed botanical prints, or other nature prints like seashells or insects. Paintings might be horses or dogs. French rooms are more likely to have paintings of farm animals or birds, and tapestries. Both styles can have paintings of landscapes.

Teapots and lace are examples of decor in English Country rooms. Walking sticks and canes would be nice in a more masculine room. Books are good everywhere. Country French rooms look good with fruit, because they’re filled with fruit colors.

candy buffet table-complete with candy canes, peppermint bark, bouquets of rock candy sticks, chocolate, lollipops, jelly beans, etc.

drink table- i would use punch bowls for all the drinks! egg nog, spiked punch, regular punch, sodas (keep in cans)

dessert table: gingerbread cookies, cakes, chocolate fountain with fruit for dipping

maybe you could have one of those arches they use at weddings for photos but decorate it with ornaments, christmas tree boas, gingerbread men, candy, etc.

I would choose 1 or 2 base colors for the whole theme, like for example, if you like hot pink, make it a hot pink and white christmas celebration, have white christmas trees, white christmas tree boas for the arch way, use fake snow (like cotton, you can get it at michaels) and pour glitter to make it look real, then all the food, decor and ornaments make pink/purples/sparkly

Witches brew. It’s a delicious drink you can use either as a drink or as a dessert. I got introduced to it through one of those Halloween sampler recipe cookbooks you find at the check out counter nearly ten years ago and now it’s become a tradition that I have to have it at least once during October as a part of my Halloween. One of my sisters threw a party which she invited me to and asked me to make this for her guests who were all mid-twenties to early thirties and I had folks asking for the recipe so they could make it at home. The basic recipe is

“2 cups apple cider
1 1/2 to 2 cups vanilla ice cream
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Process cider cider, ice cream, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg in food processor or blender until smooth. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with additional nutmeg. Serve immediately. Make 4 (6-ounce) servings.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Serving Suggestion: Add a few drops of desired food coloring to ingredients in food processor to make a scary brew.

Lighten Up: To reduce fat, replace vanilla ice cream with reduced-fat or fat-free ice cream or frozen yogurt.”

You can go to a fabric store and purchase remnants
(these are pieces of fabric that are left on the bolt
that they are trying to get get rid of. Them mark them
down considerably. I got material that was $40.00 a
yard for $4.99 a yard) of shiny satins or sheer materials
in royal blue & white. Drape these over the windows
and different areas of your party room. Measure the
table you will serve your refreshments on & have
them cut a piece for the table too. Inexpensive
table cloth. Material can drastically change the look
of a room. Also purchase white & blue balloons
in pear.l (This type of balloon is super shiny). They
usually have them plain or with patterns like Happy
Birthday or with stars. Any of these would look nice.
You can either tie a few to windows or create a
few balloon bouquets (You can get these inexpensively
at a dollar stores). This would be simple & elegant.

You can either do a cupcake tower…they are amazing,
or you can find pictures of the Cirqur du soliel online
& print them out. Take it to a bakery or even a super
market. They can scan your picture on icing and put
it on your cake.

For refreshments…keep it simple & elegant: Finger
sandwiches, punch (serve in a punch bowl with
little cups or they have fancy stemware. Get this at
a party supply store. They don’t cost much) . Also
serve a tray with cheese, crackers & pepperoni as
