Just on a quick search on-line for bulk vases I found Dollar Tree has an on-line location for ordering vases. I looked up “ivy bowl” which is 5 3/4 inches tall. Not quite so wide, but it’s bowl shape is perfect for a centerpiece and it has a slight neck so flowers won’t just fall out like they tend to do in plain bubble bowls or cubes. (Otherwise, a 5 x 5 vase would actually be a cube, which are also popular, but much harder to arrange in, believe me.)
Dollar Tree site advertises a box of 12 ivy bowls (or any number of vase types) for $12.00. ($1.00 apiece.) I doubt you’ll find anything much lower. (I didn’t check shipping costs.)

Sometimes new bettas just need a day or two to acclimate to their surroundings. You can fast him for a day or two (since he’s not eating anyway) and try on the third or fourth day again. Sometimes it just takes a couple of days before a new betta starts to eat.

Just make sure that if he’s not eating, to remove the uneaten food and keep the water clean.

There’s no one place. Everybody has their own buyers out shopping for deals. Start locally. Every big city has a landscaping wholesaler with Chinese or Mexican/South American products. You can also look for niche products from the American Southwest and Europe. They are higher priced, but can be more appealing, depending on your market.

I think you color choices are good, I’d make the mocha color a bit lighter, with all those bold dark colors you could end up with them competing for attention and you could end up making a room look smaller than it really is, espeically if you don’t have a lot of big windows for natural light. You could also through in some cranberry accents in the form of throw pillows/blankets or candles in you candle holders. Make sure the fabric of of your curtains matches the fabric of you other furniture in style. I.E. don’t sheer light curtains if all the fabric is heavier, it will look out of place.

Also, never, ever trust the light in a paint store! It will look completely different in the light in your home than at the store! Take some sample home, cut them up and tape them on the wall and put them near your couch, chair, carpet/floor etc. Some paint companies offer inexpensive 2 oz samples in thier most popular colors. You can paint a 2×2 section with that and really see what it will look like. I’ve had many guests in my paint department who were so grateful for that because they loved the color in the store and hated it on the wall. 3 bucks for a sample verses 20 plus dollars for a gallon of paint you hate is a big difference. And most places won’t take back mixed paint.

It’s really not something that we think about too often. What happens when the auto glass repair job we had done isn’t done properly? For a car owner, we simply yank someone out of the phone book or call someone with a catchy jingle that we heard once and tell them our needs and hand over our keys. What happens next is not known to us and we tend to keep it that way.

In our own self imposed ignorance, we simply expect that the auto glass repair company will do the job and we get our car back later that day. Most of us are more concerned with getting a replacement inspection sticker to avoid getting pulled over than we are about the work that was done.

Upon basic inspection, it is difficult to discern whether the window repair was done correctly or not. It looks like it fits, it looks clean and new, and so off we go back into our world with our newest inconvenience taken care of for the day. Auto glass repair is not that simple, and there have been numerous places in Dallas, the surrounding areas, and other parts of the country who have been infiltrated with under par window replacement issues. The consequences can range from annoying to life threatening, and we the public are none the wiser.

The Dallas area has a high incidence of such insufficient window replacement simply due to the large number of glass companies in the area. Just like a town with too many hot dog stands, the bad hot dogs are bound to rear their ugly heads more often simply because there are more of them. Dallas hot dog stands are doing fine, the glass companies are now finding exactly where they stand on the quality scale.

Glass companies that return vehicles without a basic standard of safety are risking more than a leaky windshield. Windshields that leak are annoying and they are also a precursor to a large-scale problem waiting to occur under just the right circumstances. Window repair is not a simple project. Companies that lack the resources to properly train their employees, pay employees just enough to retain the good ones.

They lack the knowledge themselves in order to pass it onto their employees. Which risks their client’s lives with every slap dash window repair job that gets through. The general public of course, is impatient, requesting their vehicle is cared for now and without delay.

Glass companies also want to make their customers happy and offer them a speedy service that may or may not cave in on them. Glass companies must be willing to stand up and explain to the general public that a good window repair job is necessary and that they need to be patient. If the job is done correctly, customers need to wait about an additional 30 minutes on average.

Auto glass repair jobs that fail to do a good job create the most dangerous of situations. Of course, they don’t fail while your car is happily parked in the lot on a clear sunny day with no one behind the wheel. Rather, they fail in high winds on stormy nights, causing cuts and vision impairment on highways and overpasses.

They fail in the car wash, allowing burning hot water and wax to infiltrate the car and cause severe damage to skin, eyes, and of course the interior of the car. They fail while people are driving, causing nasty accidents and damages to both vehicles and humans along the way. It is rare that glass companies can even be held accountable after the fact, as the accidents that follow are more than enough to tear the remains of the windshield apart, leaving behind a tattered vehicle and the people that were riding in it.

Auto glass repair businesses are not a place for slap dash handy work and rush jobs, but window replacement takes a real skill and education in attaining that real skill. Of course, we want our cars back as soon as possible and we want to just go about our day without having to be bothered with the annoyance of a broken windshield. Unfortunately, it is up to the glass companies in Dallas and elsewhere to determine for us that they know what is best when it comes to the safety of our windshield. We ask them to fix it, and we hope they realize the great responsibility of window replacement.

If you have the time and a real steady hand, you can do the following:
• Write out what you want to stencil in a pretty font on your computer and print it out. Try not to get real intricate, because this process includes cutting out the letters.

Most cut flowers, except tulips, should be cut as soon as you receive them, and re-cut several days thereafter. On the day you receive a bouquet of fresh cut flowers immediately cut the stems at an angle, 3 cm in height. Several days later re-cut the stems another 2 cm, also at an angle.

You should keep fresh water in your container at all times. You will want to add water daily and change the water once it becomes cloudy or murky. Watering is one of the most important aspects of fresh cut flower care. This is especially true for the first day they are in your care. During this time period they will absorb almost one-half of all the nutrients they will need to survive over their lifespan.

Cut flowers should always be kept away from high heat. It is important to avoid placing your bouquets and arrangements near heaters, TV’s, computers, or other appliances that produce heat.

Also, you should keep your fresh blooms away from fruits. Fruit gives off a gas, ethylene, which will cause flowers and plants to age prematurely. You can add a few drops of household bleach to the water in the container. This will act as a ‘flower food’ or preservative and also keep bacteria and algae from growing in the vase.

Tulips, like other fresh cut flowers, need to be trimmed at a 3 cm angle, and re-cut after 2 days. They do not, however, need to have their water changed. And, say floral experts, preservatives or flower food should never be added to tulip bouquets. Tulips tend to grow toward natural light and don’t be surprised if their head falls or droops as this is natural and adds to the beauty of your arrangement.

Budding Beauties

Some blossoms are normally delivered in the bud stage. This is to ensure safety during travel and will allow you to enjoy the flowers for much longer. It is truly amazing to watch the graceful buds open over time. Lilies and Irises are two of the most popular blooms delivered in the bud stage.

Roses are sometimes delivered with guard petals. These petals are outer petals that can easily be removed without damaging the flower. Once removed the rose will open and flourish. The guard petals protect the rose during transport.

If your roses wilt you can revive them by re-cutting the stem at a 2 cm angle, submerging the stem in warm water for 1 minute, and then placing it in a vase of cool, fresh water. Roses are one of the thirstier cut flowers but can remain vibrant with lots of water.

If you receive lilies you will need to remove the stamen. The stamen is the cluster of pollen in the center of the bloom and can cause staining to your furniture or clothing. As with other fresh cut flowers they must be cut and re-watered periodically.

Follow the Instructions

Floral arrangements are very popular for holidays, birthdays, a house warming, and other special occasions. While you normally would not take out each blossom and cut their stem you can still take measures to extend the life of these flowers. Some of the exotic arrangements will include attached special instructions or florist guidelines for flower care. The instructions are provided for a reason: following them will keep your flowers fresh much longer.

Floral arrangements should be watered every day and dead flowers and leaves removed as soon as possible. Adding a small bit of bleach to the water will prevent bacteria growth.

Whatever you finally choose to do, you don’t need the wax to be so hot it will shatter glass. Heat the wax until at least half is liquid and take it off the heat and allow to stand. The rest of the wax will melt in time (keep the pan in a warm place – not hot) and will be liquid enough to be pourable.
I think Pat C is right about it being a mess due to wax clinging to the glass and obscuring the etching – which would be a shame and would rather defeat the object.

my dog had seperation anxiety. he has really bad authoritis and when we came home one day he had climbed the satirs and was lying in our bath tub whining!! it was so sad! but over time he got better. The thing that works best for me is to add like a tablespoon of bleach to the water. I know it sounds weird, but when my father passed away, we had tons of flowers from his funeral and i added fresh water and bleach to the vases and they lasted over two weeks. You could also use Sprite or 7-Up in the water. Again, just a tablespoon or so. The flowers will last longer but I’ve found the bleach seems to work best. Good luck!

It sounds like you don’t have quite enough color in your centerpieces to draw the eye. If you just want to supplement what you already have, why don’t you try getting some curling ribbon in gold and ivory and get some red silk rose petals (I’ve seen them at Party City, among other places). Curl a few yards of ribbon per table and just lay around the glass pebbles and candles, then sprinkle on a handful of the petals for additional color. You might want to add a few drops of yellow food coloring to the water that the roses are in (make it resemble champagne?) because it is color that will make the whole thing sparkle.

On a different note, for my centerpieces, I got some of those clear acrylic boxes and put pictures of my husband and I as children on the sides. We had eighteen tables, so I got 36 different pictures of me and 36 of him (I took them to Kinko’s and got color copies so the originals were safe). I cut them to fit just inside the boxes and taped them in. Then, the boxes themselves were filled with birdseed and paper fans were stuck into the seed to keep them upright (my wedding was in July and it was an outdoor reception). The guests didn’t want to just stay at one table. They had to go around and see all the different pictures of us.

To answer your question about tea pots…cast irons ARE the best and the best one to get if you are really serious about drinking tea, for a number of reasons. They do keep the tea hot the longest, and honestly the taste of tea made in a cast iron is the best in comparison to anything else. Over time it also forms a mineral layer inside which adds to your health benefits. Also good… is that they will last you a long time compared to other options.

Since you don’t want to spend a lot of money, you could always try teapots Teavana has called Beehouse teapots. They make about 3 cups, and include the tea infuser. Also nice is that some are microwaveable and dishwasher safe. Last I would suggest the tea infuser that drops right in your cup, or the Perfect Teamakers. They are easy to use, very convenient, and the least expensive. It’s really up to you though as far as what is best for your lifestyle!

As far as tea is concerned…White tea is THE healthiest tea you can drink. Contains the most antioxidants out of all teas. They are all very light in flavor as well. Green tea is next in line as far as health benefits are concerned. Then you have your oolong teas, which are good for digestion and metabolism. Black tea, which is good for lowing blood pressure and cholesterol, and just good for the heart in general. Herbal and Rooibos teas have a lot of vitamins and minerals, and are caffeine free. The color is due to excessive iron impurity. Glass often has iron impurity from the sand used to produce glass but in some cases the iron impurities are worse than others. You’ll notice most glass looks green from the edge because you’re looking through thicker glass, so iron in glass is normal. There is a complicated science involved in correcting this tint, having to due with adjusting the ratio of iron oxidation states. Unfortunately that can only be done at melting of the glass and so the only solution you have is to contact the manufacturer and tell them they put too much iron in your glass.

They will likely replace it as this is a common defect.
