Hi I just wanted to share some tips for choosing kids bedding.  You may be thinking I know nothing about buying children’s bedding.  Well it really is not that hard.  Here are some tips that will help.

1. Quality is important.  Be sure you are purchasing from a time tested, quality orientated company. 
2. Be sure to communicate with your kids. Find out what they like, and try to purchase things that will be pleasing to them.
3. Keep in mind the age of the child.  For instance, if they are teenagers they may not want baby, toddler, or kids bedding in their room.  Kids are under peer pressure, and you do not want to embarrass them with a good intention and a bad selection.
4. Select your theme.  This is what you and your child will decide is the subject for the room.  It should be something that your child has a passion for such as trucks, dinosaurs, flowers, bugs, astronauts or whatever.  Once you have decided on the theme it is easy to move on to the next step.  Color.
5. Everyone knows that color is important, do some research on this subject.  When looking to buy kids bedding, ask yourself this question, what colors will flow with the color scheme of my child’s room?  Go online and check out to see what is available.  Look at accessories as well as bedding.  This will be helpful when you move on to the next step which is actually picking the accessories.  Be color conscious.  If you select the wrong colors you could end up redoing the whole room. 
6. Most accessories are very colorful.  That is why accessories coordinate well with the kid’s bedding.  That is if the kid’s bedding, and accessories have the same theme.  You can purchase accessories in a wide range of items.  There are: clocks, wall borders, rugs, wall hangings (with different colored frames), pillows, growth charts, curtains and many more.
7. When purchasing online you can have the product shipped directly to the child.  This thrills them and gives them a feeling of belonging and importance.  It is free so take advantage of this opportunity.

Well that is it.  This is a formula that I have developed to help you come up with a way to get the room that you want for your kids.  It is a progression that will help get you from point A to point B and eventually end up where you want to go.  Select your theme then move on to color.  Once you decide on color, move on to accessories and end up selecting your kid’s bedding.  If you follow these steps, you will be on your way to setting up a great room for your kids.

there’s absolutely no other choice, you want to get rid of EVERYTHING you don’t need in that room, with very little occupying space on your horizontal surfaces (so maybe a clock and a dish to keep your change on your dresser and that’s it. if you have a tv in there, i would get it out unless it’s wall mounted flat screen, it’ll take up too much space.

you mentioned your wall color, which sounds like a good pick, but you didn’t say what shade. your walls should be a light shade of whatever color you pick, to may your space appear bigger, as it will reflect the light more. also, If your room has ceilings that are 8′ high or under, paint the ceiling a shade or two lighter than the color of your walls, which will make your ceilings seem higher and therefore, your room bigger. the ceiling doesn’t have to be white, either. a lighter shade than the one you picked, or a contrasting color, but still lighter. this will add a little life to a sparsely decorated space.

for the furniture, you say you have a desk AND dresser…do you have a closet? if so, will your dresser fit inside? or can you reduce your wardrobe enough so that you can move all of your clothing into the closet and say goodbye to the dresser? you could use hanging shelves like this:

I really like this bedding. The colors are definitely unisex, so that is a plus. I have three small children and I know what it is like to fall in love with a crib set. IMHO, you could use this for either sex. The key is to make sure when the baby is born to accessorize with girlie things or boyish things. For example, a boy’s room might have some soft fuzzy balls in the room’s colors, or a teddy bear wearing a uniform, A picture of some trucks or blocks on the wall. Using an accent color of a navy blue, or the sage green in the bedding for the crib sheet. For a girl, lots of girlie things like hairbrushes, baby dolls, doilies, knickknack type things.

Did you ‘book’ the border? That means, after you take it out of the water, you softly ‘fold’ it (zig zags with the glued sides together) and wait several minutes. That activates the glue completely. It should be slimy, not just slick.

Also, it is very easy to over-wipe the wet border, which squeezes the glue out from under, and keeps it from adhering well..

The painted walls should have been fine – I don’t think you need to go back and prime. Since there’s no way to know how much paste is still on the paper, re-wetting it probably won’t help, though. Time to add more adhesive.

CAREFULLY pull down the paper, cleaning any backing/ paper residue from the wall. Purchase a border adhesive (in a tub) and a small sponge roller. Don’t bother re-wetting the paper, the adhesive will do enough of that. Apply the paste, let it ‘set up’ for a few minutes, and smooth it back up. Careful not to rub all the fresh glue out! The remaining glue on the paper in addition to the new border glue should do just fine.

If large chunks of the backing stayed on the walls, you’ll have lumps or dips when you try to re-use that section, so simply cut that length out of the border, and bring two ‘good’ ends/edges together. Like when you started, a clean wall with no scraps of old paper will give you the best finished look.

Kneading is a good way for this cat to calm down naturally and is a normal, acceptable behavior.
The only time it bothers me among our large bunch is when their nails need trimming and more often than not “hook me” while they are kneading and settling down for a nap or for the night.
This cat is just wanting love and attention and when your being still and quiet allow the cat to lay near you and (you might even try throwing a flannel throw or blanket over your arm or chest or legs) let it knead itself to sleep. I have a 10 year old Main Coon mix that falls asleep beside me every night doing just that. I can set a watch by him. It takes him 30 minutes to knead, and get himself settled before he goes sound asleep; and if in that time any of the other cats (or myself) disturb him then he has to start all over and can become very annoyed with us. (LOL!)
Once he’s done his kneading in that time frame he’s done, he sleeps or he gets up and wanders off to find something else in the house to do.
My other kneaders love flannel blankets and throws or pillows and I even had a tuxedo cat (whom we raised from a bottle that we just lost last year at the age of 10) that would knead our dogs large stuffed toy bone. He would always find the squeeker in the toy, and in the middle of the night we would hear this ocasional squeek and we knew that Pickle was having some “kneading time”.

It’s awesome that your parents are letting you convert your brother’s old room into a lounge, and I think some of your ideas sound adorable, but you need to do a bit of fine-tuning. You want the room to be cute, but not cutesy.

A rich, chocolate brown paired with pale pink is actually one of my favorite color combinations, and I think it would be far lovelier to just have those two colors than to add in the blue. I would also reconsider painting the walls brown because it will make the room appear to be darker and smaller, and it tends to look very masculine on the wall, which sort of would be jarring when combined with pink stripes. Instead, I would look at a more neutral color, such a creamy, light pink. I’m not talking about little-girl pink, but a more refined pink like the “ribbon pink” or “french pink” you see on the links listed below.

If you really want to use brown, pink and blue, then I would paint the walls a clean, cloud white and fill the room with accent items in those colors. I’m a painter, and if I was designing a room with that color scheme I’d paint a mural of a cherry blossom branch with a bluebird resting on it to incorporate the pink, brown and blue. If you aren’t a muralist, then you could add design to the walls by placing artistic decals, or “wall tattoos” of cherry blossom branches polka dots, or something along those lines on them. That way, if you get tired of the design or color palette later on, you could simply remove the decals without having to repaint the entire room.

I think a white or stainless steel mini-refrigerator would look far more refined, and it would be one that you or your parents could still use for years to come, whereas you may tire of blue. As for the sofa, personally I would get a dark, chocolate-brown one that is resilient to stains, fits in your color scheme and has a lot of versatility. You could add polka dot and / or striped pillows as accents. If you really wanted colorful pieces of furniture, you could add in a few beanbags or “iChairs.” PB Teen has some really cute ones. Or you could use the pink chair….. but I wouldn’t pair that with a polka dot blue rug.

I would go for a solid color mini-table rather than a polka dot one, and put polka dot or striped pillows on the chairs. When I was redecorating my room, my stepmom’s sister, who is an interior designer, told me that the rule of thumb for decorating a teen space is to invest in more neutral “adult” furniture as the major pieces and then bring in color with the pillows, lampshades, rugs and the like that can all be easily replaced in a few years when your style has changed.

just buy some vinyl over vinyl wallpaper border paste and what I would do is to get a really long surface such as your kitchen counter and unroll as much of the border with the back side up as you can…….then just get a paint brush and dip in the adhesive and then apply liberally to the back of the border and book your ends………..
that glue works great and just be sure you coat the ends really well so it will not eventually curl………………

Sewing machines have been transformed in recent years. Manufacturers now offer electronic and computerized machines that are virtually trouble-free and much more reliable than previous versions. With the addition of specialized features and functions, users are now offered a selection of machines suited to their sewing style.

Quilting machines, in particular, are specifically designed to make the quilting experience easy and trouble-free, and also provide the quilter with a machine that can give a professional finish to any project.

A quilting machine has special features which include:

Extended Bed Space

The bedspace is the working area located between the needle and the inside of the machine. An extended bed space offers an area of approximately 8-9†wide by 5-6†high, which is larger than a standard sewing machine and provides more than ample space for a quilter to maneuver bulky quilts or large pieces of fabric

High Speed

Most top-of-the-line quilting machines offer high speed stitching which is usually around 1000 stitches per minute. The high speed rating is normally applied to the straight stitch only, with slightly reduced speed for decorative stitches. This feature offers the quilter the ability to quickly piece and quilt their project.

Stitch Regulator

Some manufacturers offer an optional attachment for their machines called a stitch regulator. The purpose of the stitch regulator is to provide a consistent stitch length when doing free motion quilting, regardless of how slow or fast the fabric is being moved.

Quilting Stitches

Specialty quilting stitches, such as buttonhole appliqué and faux hand-quilting stitches, offer a quick and simple alternative to these traditional hand-quilting techniques.

Manual Tension Control

Some quilting machines are equipped with a manual tension control. This control offers the quilter the ability to regulate the top thread tension quickly and accurately. This offers an advantage over machines with automatic tension control. As quilters often use different weights of thread in the top and bobbin, proper tension control becomes critical. With a manual control a quilter can easily and incrementally fine tune their top tension as they are stitching. With an automatic control it is necessary to access the settings within the control panel of the machine which takes longer and can be less accurate.

Manual Stitch Length/Width Control

As with the manual tension control, a manual stitch length/width control is also located on the front of the machine and similar benefits apply.

Needle Up/Down

A needle up/down setting allows the user to stop sewing with the needle in the down position. This is an advantage when working with heavy quilts or when doing free motion quilting. When stopping with the needle down, there is less chance of the quilt slipping providing a continuous stitch line.

Auto thread cutter

An automatic thread cutter is a very useful feature on a quilting machine. Cutting both the top thread and the bobbin thread in one simple action, it reduces both thread wastage and the time taken to manually trim thread tails.

Feed Dogs Control

Dropping the feed dogs allows your quilt to move easily when doing free motion quilting.

When deciding if a quilting machine is right for you, shop around and visit your local sewing machine dealers. Try out two or three models and then decide which one is for you.

Normally any wood shavings are bad for small animals. It causes lung infections and I’ve heard of them getting eye infections from it. Although it tends to be long term affects. When you bring a new small family member home, they tend to sneeze and such. They are just getting used to the new area. If it continues for over a week or so, I would suggest to bring him to the vet. But don’t worry about it yet!

I would strongly suggest to switch to Carefresh. It is a little bit more expensive, but it is compacted and with a hamster the large bag should last you at least 3 months, most likely more. I would also suggest to go with the Original, it tends to be more brown and does not contain any bleach. I do not suggest the Ultra, it is whitened with bleach and tends to have a lot more dust and you’ll find you have to dust the room at least once a day.

Where does he sleep at night? Where ever he goes to bed at night make that the place he takes a nap also. It will make his body recognize that place as a place for sleep.

I personally then would have no problem laying a blanket on the floor for him to nap on. It might take him a few days to get used to it. My son is currently laying on the floor taking his nap because I don’t want to run upstairs to lay him down. And he seems to sleep really well on the floor.

I’m a big boy and I’m fascinated with fire trucks too. I did some of my bachelor pad in a fire motif so maybe this can help. I even had and still have a 1948 open cab fire truck out in the garage. Galls.com has actual decals that can be put on fire trucks. You could even put your child’s name on them. You can also get shirts and other items too. Also check with your local highway dept. Sometimes they will sell of or give away old fire station signs yellow with the black fire truck on them. I got one this way. You can also get “No Parking Fire Lane” signs at just about hardware store. You may want to stop in at the main fire station in your area. They most likely get tons of brochures and sales pictures that they will probably load in you car for you to keep from having to throw out. And you never know when they may have some broken goodie that they will give you that will make the perfect nick nack.
I have to respectfully disagree with the above poster and say that I think fire trucks represent hope and salvation. I cant think of anything more positive. Like a fire capt I knew used to say, “When we pull up in the big red truck, we’re not leaving until things get better”

We have similar taste. We have dark brown (almost black) Sofas and we painted one wall a pastel green for a focal wall then the rest a pale lavender (almost white). White looks gorgeous with lighter blues as this is what we did for our kitchen. Basically any pastel or jewel tone blues, purples, greens or yellows would look great. Try being Monochromatic picking one colour but then having it in diferent shades, textures, etc. Personally I think when you have a dark piece of furniture you want to spice it up with Bright, happy yet sophisticated colours. You can make it fit your mood as as well. For spring bright yellows, purples, and greens and a more dramatic feel use reds and silver and orange.

It really depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to spend. I ordered a prairie stripe quilt from walmart.com. I wanted the pottery barn look but couldn’t afford it, especially since I needs 2 of everything. I am really surprised by how nice it is and it looks good too.Pottery Barn has nice stuff, jcp.com has a decent selection, also domestications.com. My daughter’s set came from amazon.com, you can find almost anything there. If you want character stuff, try walmart, kmart, or eBay. It seems like there are a million different candle companies in the marketplace, ranging from being in every single mall to only selling online. So, how do you choose the right one? Are the candles actually different? Do some candles smell better than others? Does the manufacturer really make a difference or is a candle just a candle? You probably didn’t even realize that there were so many factors to think about when purchasing a candle, eh? Well then, you’ll be very surprised to know that there are a ton of things to watch out for when selecting that perfect candle.

While a lot of candle companies may appear to be similar at first glance, there are many things to be aware of when deciding which candle manufacturer you want to go with. The first thing to look for (which is more of a trial and error method) is to find the companies who scent there candles all the way through. What do I mean? Well, there are some companies out there who will actually only put fragrance in half of the candle. Have you ever purchased a candle that smelled amazing the first few times you lit it but then when you got towards the bottom half of the candle it lost a lot of its scent? That’s because some companies only scent the top half of the wax in their candles to save money. They will pour unscented wax in the containers, allow that wax to cool and harden, and then pour the scented wax over the top of that. That way no one will know and the candle will still smell good until you get down to the bottom portion. A lot of people who don’t burn candles all of the time will think that maybe that’s just how it is or that the candle may be old and that’s why it doesn’t smell. NOT TRUE! A good candle will still smell good, right down to the bottom of the jar even if it has been sitting on the shelf for a few years.

If you have experienced this in the past then please understand that this is not normal and you have really only purchased half of a scented candle. To put it bluntly, you spent 50% too much. Make a note of any candles that you believe are only half scented and don’t buy from that company again. If they did it once, chances are they will do it again. It is also a good idea to contact the company and request a refund or ask for another candle. That way at least you will still get your money’s worth, along with some extra unscented wax.

When you burn a candle from a good, legitimate candle company it will smell amazing right down to the last drop of wax. It should smell the same from beginning to end. If you are unsure which company to go with, your best bet would be to go with a company that is right here in the USA. Most of the American companies who actually manufacture their products in the U.S. will not jip you on your candles. If a candle says “made in China” on it (or some other equivalent country) then you already know that the company making those candles has already cut costs by outsourcing all of their manufacturing and chances are they may be cutting costs in the bottom half of your candle as well.
