Want to dress up that room but don’t have $75-$150 per hour to hire an interior designer? Well you can make your rooms look and feel beautiful on a budget. With a little initiative, you might surprise yourself with the talent that is lying dormant within you.

If you can use a computer and do a simple Google search, you can uncover some hidden gems to get you started. Go to Google and search on “interior design”. Take some time to read some articles and make notes.

For most people the first thing they want to do after a hard days work is to clean up. A shower comes in very handy to wash of the dirt and grime of the day. It is frustrating when a lighting designer recommends a certain type of lighting and then doesn’t follow up with the source of the fixtures. I would go back to the designers and lean on them to find the fixtures for you. That is their business and they have immediate access to far more resources than you do. I wish I could offer a better solution, but I don’t have an easy answer. I can tell you that I have done as I have advised and found results every time. I have to admit that being a builder offers some leverage with the designers.

All of the wires should be tested.

That being said…What is likely the case, you have two wires that are in the “push down” connection and one is on the side screw.

The screw connection and the “push down” connection that is beside it are the same connection.

What is sometimes done in a tight box is; instead of splicing the wires together which would take up room in the box the electrician will use the side screw connection AND the push down connection and use that as a splice to carry the feed wire to another location.

If this is the case

When you disconnect all the wires from the switch (Take note of which wire went to each connection on the switch) you will notice that the power turned off in either a receptacle or the lights in another room.

If this happens, then you know to connect (splice) the two wires that are next to each other (Push down connection and screw connection).Splice those two together with one of the dimmer wires. and then the other wire will splice to the other dimmer wire.

Well, it depends on what sealer is already on the wood. If it is an oil-based sealer, you’ll need to use an oil-based sealer coating. You can get this at any paint store. It’ll waterproof your wood pretty much and will protect against scratches. I do however suggest that you coat the entire surface, not just the top. Use a clear sealer so the color stays the same.

But just a thought…. have you thought about going to a stone mason or wherever they sell marble. If your dresser is small enough, you can get a remnant for a relatively good price and have a marble top made for it….

Personally, I would remove the towel bar from above toilet. I would hang picture in its place. I would not put anything else on that wall above toilet, other than picture. I would move bar across from sink and place decorative hand towels on it (typically 3 work well) It’s ok if the door opens to that wall. Many 1/2 baths still have towel rack on wall across from sink, regardless of door. If you choose not to do that, then put a towel ring next to sink.

What about fitting a mirror to cover the available wall space? You mention that it’s for a basement so guess that light is at a premium – this way you would reflect whatever light you have got, back into your bathroom & make it appear a lot lighter and larger. You’d have to get the mirrored glass cut and fitted specially, but think it could be worth it. We did this on our bathroom wall and it looks fabulous.

The first thing to do is look at the space you have available and pay attention to your available utilities so that you can lay out your basement bathroom design. You’ll want to locate the bathroom such that it’s close to plumbing and electrical wiring, so that hookups will be inexpensive and simple. As long as you’ve got access to electricity and plumbing, you’ll be able to put together a space that works well and is pleasant to be in.

1) Remove the baseboard, push the overjohn cabinet back against the wall, put a screw or two through the back of the cabinet into a stud, cut the baseboard into three pieces that fit around the legs of the cabinet.
2) Put a couple screws through the back of the cabinet into studs without removing the baseboard. It will lean a little but if you make sure to hit a stud with a couple screws it won’t affect anything.

I’d be concerned about using just a towel. The shape of the kayak’s hull might not match up well with your roof. And even with the towel, tying the kayak more or less directly to the roof could dent it.

If you can’t spring for a rack, at least get some foam blocks. They’ll conform to the shape of the kayak a little better and will provide a little more cushioning between the kayak and the car. Over time, areas of your home will get run-down from continuous usage. One of these areas in your home that is especially subject to being run-down is your bathroom. However, you can remodel your bathroom to make it appear new and “unused” again.

What you can do to remodel your bathroom will depend on how large your budget is. Obviously, the more money you have to work with, the more you can do.

For those who can only spend a few hundred dollars on remaking your bathroom, you will have to learn to live with the molding, flooring, and plumbing. This includes the tiles on your walls and even on your bathtub and/or in your shower. Don’t look upon this as a negative though; tilize the parts you can’t change and incorporate your new design around those parts.

If those parts are made up of bright and vivid colors, it’s better to add subtle accessories. If those parts consist more of neutral colors (like black, white, and gray,) you should add some color that will make people stand up and take notice (bright and deep reds, greens, blues, purples, oranges, etc.)

The quickest and most inexpensive way to remodel your bathroom is to get good-quality paint (around $30-$35/gallon) and do the work yourself. Whether you choose to go with more neutral or pastel colors or if you choose to go with high-impact, vivid colors, make sure to go for an eggshell finish, as this type of finish will hold up better against moisture and the surfaces can be cleaned without staining.

Adding new hardware and accessories can also effectively change your bathroom quickly and inexpensively. Several retail stores provide different varieties of “cheap chic” cabinet pull and knob styles that only run around $10-$15 for a four-piece set. You can also check out your local flea market or look through your closets and cabinets for more interesting and unique accessories, such as glass canisters and trays that can also be used as soap dispensers and toothbrush holders.

While towel bars and toilet paper holders only cost $20 each, if you buy too many of these, you’ll quickly eat away at your budget. Instead, you may want to consider using a cute basket or box to hold your plush towels and/or toilet paper rolls. You can also use an old bedside table to hold your towels.

If you have higher budgets to spend on remodeling your bathroom ($500-$1,500+,) you can consider adding a new shower curtain, new bathroom rugs or mats, new light fixtures, a new medicine tablet, and even a new sink and toilet.

What you decide to replace will greatly depend on what parts of your old bathroom you liked and what parts you have already replaced. If you have upgraded the plumbing and like your paint or wallpaper, then you probably should go ahead and lay new flooring. If, on the other hand, you like the flooring as is, then focus on the other aspects of the bathroom, such as the light fixtures and the walls. It’s up to you (and your budget) to decide whether you feel you should replace all the aspects of your current bathroom or just certain parts of it.

Your bathroom is one of the most used rooms in your home. Over time, it will start to wear down and will be in need of a makeover. It is usually advisable to mix in some vivid color with some neutral or pastel colors, just to ensure that the bathroom isn’t too placid, yet not too vivid where you can’t relax in the bathroom either. Paint would be something that fits your coloring. If you’re darker skinned (tan, not really dark), try light shades like turqoise, light pink, light green, light blue, blue-green, light yellow. Colors that look good on you, like what you’d pick out to wear on you.
If you’re really dark-skinned, try beige, cream, terra cotta, light orange, orange-red, red-brown, light brown, dark tan, etc.

Big Cedar RV Park

Big Cedar is located between Winding Stair and Kiamichi mountains surrounding the Ouachita National Forest. It lies on the shadow of Talimena Scenic Drive. The park offers cabins, tent sites and RV hookups in the Kiamichi River valley.

This park has three new and fully furnished cabins for rent. It can sleep six and four persons. Two larger cabins have full kitchens and another three have private baths. Cabin amenities include a picnic table and a barbeque grill. It also provides modern amenities like coin-operated laundry, cable and Wi-fi. Cabin rates cost about $65 to $75 per night with tax.

Absolutely. The drain line that comes out of the wall or floor may not be in the best place, but you can make this happen. You will be connecting drains similarly to those in a double bowl kitchen sink. You will have the two sink “tailpieces” to which you will connect your drain lines and sink traps. Or, depending on ease of access to the existing piping after the new sinks are installed, you could use one trap. Eventually, both lines will connect to a T and then extend to either your wall or floor drain outlet. The supply plumbing will need to be T’d from the existing hot and cold to the new hot and cold locations. You may be using the hot and cold that come out of the wall or floor as merely main supplies to which you will T right and left from each pipe. If you take a photo of your proposed installation, your plumbing supply house will be able to hook you up with all of the necessary fittings.

I think you are correct in that you are smelling sewer gas. You have an air leak somewhere. Or you have lost a loop seal, though that is much less likely. And it may be the sewer roof vent is plugged. I have a 3br/2.5ba house. I live by myself. I rarely use the downstairs half-bath. I have to remember to put water down the half-bath sink every once in a while to keep the loop seal intact to prevent sewer gas from backing up through the sink. Water evaporates out of loop seals. It could be an air leak anywhere on the downstream side of any loop seal, but most likely where the toilet mates with the pipe in the floor. If the clamps are loose enough so the toilet can rock even if only a little bit you can not feel when it moves, it will eventually work the wax out of the sealing surfaces and leak air, but usually NOT water. This part of the pipe below the toilet is larger in diameter than the toilet itself, so the water just runs down the insides of the pipe, which has no pressure behind it to leak out of the leaking wax seal. Gravity keeps the water moving past the leak. The water has no reason to turn sideways to get out of the leaking seal. As you use the shower, you put water down the drain, which if the roof vent is plugged or restricted in some manner, will raise the air pressure in the sewer, and force air out of the leaking wax seal. So, bottom line, I think you have two problems which combined to cause your odor problem, a restricted roof vent and a leaking wax seal under the toilet.

Call a glass shop and tell them what you want. They can usually cut the glass to order, deliver and install it cheaper than you can order one from a furniture store. I used to work as a designer for a high end furniture store and I was always appalled at how expensive good mirrors were. My husband is a general contractor and we do mirrors for very expensive residential bathrooms (framed and unframed) all the time and the cost is a fraction of what the furniture store charged. Plus, you can order exactly what you want–if you can describe it or draw it–they can make it for you.

I had custom mirrors installed in my modern kitchen as a backsplash and also had a custom corner mirrored unit with 1/2 inch glass display shelves above my corner sink—whole cost? About $400 including installation–and that’s a whole lot more glass and complicated installation than one single glass mirror like you’re talking about. Yes, towels are functional. We all want soft, warm, fluffy
towels to wrap around us when we come out of the shower. But you
don’t have to use the same towels all the time. By changing your
towels with your mood, the season or the day of the week, you
can give your bathroom a whole new look and feel. If you mix
towels of the dominant color of your bathroom, with white
towels, you have a clean, pristine, fresh look. If you mix them
with black ones then you have a trendier, ‘cooler” look (and
much more practical than white if you have kids in the house!)
For a subdued and harmonious look, buy towels of various shades
of the same color. A friend of mine has a white bathroom with
occasional stripes of pinky-purple in the tiles. On the towel
rack when I visit her (alone) I find a selection of 14 towels in
all shades of purple and mauve imaginable. It looks gorgeous! I
tell her it’s always my challenge to work out how to use 14
towels in the one or two days I stay with her. So whatever the
color already there, vary it and see what combinations you can
come up with. Alternatively, still on the concept of varying the
shades, if you do not like the basic color you can work to
change that with towels. Let’s say you have bought a new house
and there is some green in the floor, countertops and tiles that
you do not really like. You can buy maybe just one towel, or
even a little hand towel, that is close to that green. The all
the other towels can be a green or move into a turquoises or
teals that blend closely with the original color, but are more
to your liking. Using a color wheel can help you get an idea of
just what colors blend with yours, and which you like and
dislike. You can find a really good color wheel at
http://www.ficml.org/jemimap/style/color/wheel.html that lets
you see the colors as you hover over the wheel with your mouse.
Mind you this it is not always possible to “undo” unfortunate
design decisions, but you can reduce them. In the first house of
my own the bathroom had bright green floors, a totally different
color of green bathroom suite, the tiles around the bath were
yet another green with yellow stripes, and to top it all off the
walls that were not tiled were papered with green paper with
yellow ducks. It was horrendous! Nothing could rescue that
bathroom, and since it was a company house I was not in a
position to do much to it. I just hung a dark green shower
curtain and matching dark green towels, bath mat and toilet seat
cover, to hide as much of the other multitude of greens as I
could. It didn’t solve the problem, but the towels definitely
helped lessen the damage. Hopefully you are in a better
position. If you like color and want something that stands out,
you can go with complementary colors. These are colors directly
opposite each other on the color wheel. This can give a very
lively, interesting look but be careful how you do it. For a
while, many years ago orange and purple together were the rage,
and in reality they are not quite complementary colors. Orange’s
complementary color is blue and purple’s complementary color is
green. But orange and purple are discordant colors, meaning they
do not usually “go” together.

I saw a wonderful combination of the two in a restaurant. It had
bright tangerine orange with a dark, deep, almost black purple.
I also saw a bedroom that looked awful with a light orange
bedspread and light, bright purple curtains. I do not know how
anyone could sleep in that room. The idea with discordant or
complementary colors is to make one color deep and the other
light or bright. Towels are a wonderful way to do this, as if
you get tired of the combination it is so easy just to change
the towels and have a more soothing scheme for a while. Towels
come in an enormous array of colors and shades. There are lovely
velour ones that look like velvet. There are fluffy ones,
jacquard ones, towels with lace or fringes, and of course, every
pattern under the sun. Try some patterned or striped towels and
then pick up the colors in solid colored towels. Again, easy to
switch and change. It is also an inexpensive way to decide what
you want to do in the way of paint, flooring and countertops in
a bathroom you are redesigning. Try your color combinations out
with towels and get a feel for how much of what color you want
to have – and once it is done, you already have the towels to
accent it all. So be daring. Look at all the great towels
selections online, pick what you like the best, and build a
whole new look with deep pile, smooth velour or fluffy Egyptian

There is no shut off valve “handle” on a water meter. Are you really sure that it is broken?

There should be a metal tab protruding from the valve between the meter and the house. The water is turned off by twisting this tab 90 deg to be crossways to the pipe using a “water meter key,” a simple but specific tool you can buy at the hardware store for $10 – $20. Alternatively, it can sometimes be turned with various wrenches or pliers.

It’s a good idea to have one if you do not have individual valves at each faucet and be sure to add them when you install new fixtures.

If its outside the tub/shower and mounted to the drywall theres 2 things it could be.. #1 It could be a clip on model in which case you can gently hammer hem and break them off since their hollow.. Then you ll see a screwed on clip which you undo and fix accordingly.. #2 Its thinseted to a small cut out in the wall.. Cat urine does not do the carpets any good and if you allow the cat to continually use the corner of a room, you will soon find that the carpet discolors and you can never really get rid of that awful smell.
You could use a “pet behave spray” which is basically a spray that can be applied to any soft furnishing – carpets, stairs, settees etc and will deter the cat from going near as they hate the smell. You will also need to clean the litter tray daily if you have more than one cat. The only solution is perseverance and a willingness to clean up a lot of cat waste before they finally learn where they are supposed to go! You should never scold a young cat for fouling in the wrong place and certainly never rub its nose in it.

The “wingits” are about $20 each. you’ll need 2 per grab bar. Moen is cheaper I think around $20 for 2 of their attachement pieces.

To install either one you’ll need to drill 1-1/4″ holes spaced for the length of your grab bar. Get your holes as accurate as you can because there isn’t much play when you try to attach the grab bar to the brackets in the wall, sorry I can’t remember what Moen called their attaching bracket.
