I used to have a rug like that. The first few years I had it I would hang it out over my clothesline and spray it with the hose using a gardening attachment, that instead of fertilizer I filled with a mixture of water and laundry soap. Once that was done I sprayed it with plain water to rinse out all the soap. After a few washes with hose it eventually came clean. I did this about 2 times a year. That rug lasted almost 10 years. I finally got rid of it when we got a new carpet. Of course you have to do this on a nice day so that you can leave the rug on the clothesline ot air-dry when you are finished.

don’t dry clean it, wash it. if your washer is not big enough go to a laundramat and take a front loader washing machine. Put it in with less soap than normal about 1/2 cup and cool water. when done put in dryer or hang to dry. dry on lower heat for an hour. it works. i have never had a comforter cleaned in my 45 years of marriage. only washing them. the dryer makes them fluffier when you take them out. just make sure there are no tears in the comforter because you will end with feathers all over the machine. if there are any tears or holes, get them professionally repaired before washing.

When you take the sheets out of the washer, shake them out and make sure that they are not all tangled up with each other in the dryer. Also, about half way trough the dry cycle, take them out and shake them again so that they are not tangled up. If you are really that worried about them being wrinkled, I would suggest washing and drying them on the permanent press cycle and be sure to remove them promptly after the dryer cycle stops. Also, if you put the sheets on the bed while they are still warm/hot they should cool off without any wrinkles because they are stretched out. I really don’t know why I just answered that because it does not matter if they are wrinkled. They are going to get wrinkled if you sleep on them!!!!! lol!!! Hope I helped!

Personally, wrinkles don’t bother me as I’m sleeping most of the time I’m in bed and don’t have to look at them. However, most stores do sell polyester, no wrinkle sheets and they are typically the cheapest sheets they sell. There are also satin sheets but these stain easily and body oils tend to leave stains which won’t come out. If wrinkles bother you, I would think stains would bother you too. Then there’s always the option of putting a dryer sheet product in the dryer with your cotton sheets and taking them out of the dryer as soon as they are done. This usually minimizes wrinkles.

The things that you want to look for are the quality of down inside…European is the lowest that they sell and Siberian the highest quality. Also, the fill power determines the size of the down cluster. The higher the fill power, the larger the cluster. What that means is that a larger down cluster will trap more air to keep you warmer and it will also keep it’s shape and loft longer. 550 fill power is the lowest fill power that Scandia Down sells. I would have to agree. A couple years ago I registered for 350 thread count sheets (Marshall Field’s brand) and every time I use them (still, 8 years later) they get softer and softer. I have since purchased ones with higher thread counts in the 400-800 ct range, and haven’t been as happy with them and some actually “pill” or look a little worn (100% cotton, no poly blends!). So, I think it probably depends on the quality of the cotton, the blend (damask thread or stripe pattern which I find “pills”) and who knows, the actual number. But I would have to agree that once you get above 350 it really isnt’ THAT much different.

Measure your mattress. King size mattresses measure “76 x 80″, California King mattresses measure 72″ x 84″, and Queen mattresses measure 60″ x 80″. My best guess–and that’s all it is, a guess–is that your existing sheets should be fine. The only potential I see for problems is if the depth of the waterbed is substantially more than your existing regular mattress, so the waterbed requires deep pocket sheets that your old bed doesn’t.

(We had that problem replacing an old bed with a new one of the same size–but so much deeper none of our bottom sheets would go on at all.)

You can always stitch them together if you prefer that. It would be easy.

I was in the same boat. I couldn’t find basic white towels for a decent price in large quantities so I wound up just going to IKEA and getting some there for about 1.50 each. I did find a few people on eBay who sell them in larger lots on eBay as well

Candle making is an activity that is growing in popularity in the United States. There are various types of candles that you can make, and one of newest types is the gel candle. They are beautiful to look at, and it takes them a longer time to burn than usual.

Gel candle making supplies are a bit different than those used in making other wax candles or soy candles, but not to worry, you do not have to pay much to get hold of these supplies. The following items are needed to make gel candles: gel, zinc wicks, liquid color dye, fragrance oils and embeds. You also have the option to buy gel candle making kits. These kits contain all the items that you will need. You can buy such kits from your local craft stores, or you can buy from candle making kit sellers online and have them mail the items to you. The latter is a popular way of buying candle making kits in the United States.

How to Make Gel Candles

1. If you bought your candle making supplies separately and not from a candle making kit, choose non-flammable products. Remember that you will be using heat in making it, so you have to take the necessary precautions. Also, keep a fire extinguisher handy.

2. Do not replace zinc wicks with cotton wicks; the latter can absorb the gel. Your gel candle will not burn well with these. Also, you can glue your wick to the bottom of the container to make sure that it sticks to the center. Do not trim the wick yet, leave it long enough to let it reach outside the container.

3. Cut the gel into small strips, this will aid in melting the gel faster. You can use a double boiler or a multiple cooker in melting the gel. Control the temperature. Do not leave it too high, or the candle can lose its gloss.

4. Wooden spoons should not be used for stirring the gel candle wax, as they can cause bubbles in the mixture. You do not want bubbles in your candle.

5. Once the gel becomes smooth, pour the liquid dye into the mixture. You do not need to pour a lot of the liquid dye; a small drop is all that is needed to add color to your gel candle. Gel candles pick up color more readily than other candle waxes. You can also skip pouring the dye altogether, and keep your the candle clear.

6. To make scented gel candles, you can add scents or fragrance oils to the gel mixture. They can come in low, medium and high densities. The higher the density, the more fragrance it can hold. This also holds true for embeds. You have to keep in mind though, that with a higher density gel candle, the gel will also be thicker. So, it will take a longer time for the gel to melt.

7. Prepare the container that you will be pouring the gel into. Containers used are preferably those that are made of glass, in order for the design to be displayed as well as any decorative embeds. You can also make use of wine glasses and vases.

8. Before pouring the mixture into the container, heat it in the microwave oven for about a minute. If you want embeds to be at the bottom of the container, add these embeds before pouring the mixture into the container. Embeds are great additions to your candles. The embeds that you use can include glitter, crystals, seashells or marbles.

9. After pouring the candle and adding the embeds, trim the wick to its desired length.

Gel candles are considered more as decorative candles. But you will appreciate its beauty more when lit, because the transparent gel gives off a stunning glow.

What are the best fresh scented candles that fill the entire house? I really like clean cotton, fresh rain, spring meadows, etc…and usually the cinnamon or holiday ones are the strongest, so I want fresh ones that are just as good…brand names please?

I LOVE Scentsy! The scents go all through our home. We have two Scentsy warmers in our quad level home and I can smell it on every floor. After I finally got my warmer, hubby was thankful I became a consultant. LOL They are great for men and women.

I personally like the cotten sateen. I use 1000 thread count. There is a big difference on what sheets feel like, the higher the thread count the better the sheet.

Either fiber will work well, but you may want to cut cotton fabric in 3 inch strips (or, actually, find cones of bias tape for this) and fold them with a braiding folder to keep them from fraying). Fleece, OTOH, will hold it’s color better than cotton will in the sun and outdoors. Because it doesn’t fray and is thicker than cotton fabric (unless you have fabric to burn, so to speak) fleece will work up faster and be more *plush* and cushy on the tushy than cotton will. If the dog is out there, make sure you wash it weekly to keep down doggy odors, too.
