I really like this bedding. The colors are definitely unisex, so that is a plus. I have three small children and I know what it is like to fall in love with a crib set. IMHO, you could use this for either sex. The key is to make sure when the baby is born to accessorize with girlie things or boyish things. For example, a boy’s room might have some soft fuzzy balls in the room’s colors, or a teddy bear wearing a uniform, A picture of some trucks or blocks on the wall. Normally any wood shavings are bad for small animals. It causes lung infections and I’ve heard of them getting eye infections from it. Although it tends to be long term affects. When you bring a new small family member home, they tend to sneeze and such. They are just getting used to the new area. If it continues for over a week or so, I would suggest to bring him to the vet. But don’t worry about it yet!

I would strongly suggest to switch to Carefresh. It is a little bit more expensive, but it is compacted and with a hamster the large bag should last you at least 3 months, most likely more. I would also suggest to go with the Original, it tends to be more brown and does not contain any bleach. I do not suggest the Ultra, it is whitened with bleach and tends to have a lot more dust and you’ll find you have to dust the room at least once a day.
