Well Miss Claire, this reminds me of a similar episode I had with my girl friend. She prepared a similar dish as your Chicken Casserole. She served it with boston lettuce for like lettuce role ups with various dips. At the time my favorite drink was Daguerre’s.

She served the dinner on the floor in front of the fire place and insisted that she fill the role ups and feed them to me. This turned out to be a enjoyable evening that I have never forgotten.

Go with the chicken and the pillows.

This girl friend and I have been married 40 years and we still sit in front of the fire place and remind each other of the good times, the good cheer and, yes, the chicken roll ups.

(But I don’t get as many daguerries as I used to)

The only way it might (and not even then for sure) break the glass is if the flame is hitting directly on the glass. Hot wax will have no effect at all. The glass will get warm to the touch from the radiant heat, but it is even all over so no great stress on the glass which is what causes cracks. Don’t dump the hot glass into cold water if you think you have a reason to. An oil candle, where the wick floats or sits in a pool of liquid oil can get hotter. I have not heard of a wax candle in a glass getting hot enough to melt into a TV.

For your second question, it depends what type of look that you want to achieve, With a deep brown art deco, you will get away with almost any colour, white, black, orange with a tinted sheer, cream or even gold/black. Usually, if you have your bedsheets with one colour, buy a duvet the would blend with the bedsheets and the room as well. It should be different but yet ‘marry’ the colors so that it does not become an eye sore. For further ideas, google bedsheets and see what you like and you can have an idea what would look good with the deep brown furniture and you can make up your mind. But make sure that you buy comfortable bedsheets and not only pretty ones. Recommended to buy either egyptian cotton or pima cotton with a minimum thread count of at least 200 +. My answers:

I want a house built out of cream colored stone, maybe 2 floors (Like a ranch style (Long), but with 2 floors instead of one) that are whole floors, and then a third floor in the center of the roof. I would want a 2 story entry and living room (you know, stairs to a balcony). I would want it to just be comfortably furnished with neutral pieces in the living/dining/kitchen areas, and then show the personality in the bedrooms. I think I’d go for more english-style decor, but anything horse related!

How many horses?

Seeing as I want to own a boarding/breeding/rescue/training/lesson stable with a vet practice attached (I want to be an equine vet), I’d say 40-50 horses (not mine) depending. Obviously I’d have trainers and stable hands.

How many stalls?

Probably 60 in the boarding/lesson barn, 10 in the rescue, 10 in the breeding. I’d want my own private barn for my horses though, so maybe 6-10 stalls in that.

How many acres?

At least 50, preferably 100-500, even more if possible.

State?

Virginia, Maine, Pennsylvania, Florida, or Wyoming. I’m open to having it in any of those, but I’d like Virginia/Maine/Pennsylvania because my family lives in the Pittsburgh/Latrobe PA/Canton Ohio areas.

I would want it to have large wooded area (Like at the base of a mountain, preferably) so that you could go trail riding, but I’d also want lots of field space too (Cross Country course!)

I really want to have a stone barn (Cream again) with a gray shingled roof. I think it’d look really cool. I would want an indoor arena that was split like this: One 20×40 dressage, one standard (Or slightly larger) jumping. I would also want 2 outdoors (One sand, one grass) for jumping, and a couple of outdoor dressage arenas (One sand, one grass). I’d probably have the indoor located in the middle of the barn, and have the stalls form a ring around it, with a tack room in each outer corner of the aisles with private lockers in it. I’d also do lesson horses and tack in the front so the students don’t have to walk through all the boarder’s horses.

I think that’s a cool idea! Especially since it’s for an office and not a main room in the house. And the wall colours? Very busy, but if by using the M&M’s as a theme, it will all make sense. ‘Old man,’ they call me now, capped with a receding hairline, a few white hairs, here and there, a drought, rising inside my brain, knotted muscles everywhere; once unimaginable, now like vapor clouds in my eyes. I see my Mother in that old sofa chair, she’s saying, “I never expected to live so long,” how strange it seems now; I’m singing the same old song (I guess I’m there).

How do I get a burnt smell out of my room?

I lit a small votive candle on my shelf, well apparently the shelf is unlevel and the wax leaked off. It leaked on my alarm clock, was hanging off of my shelf like an icecicle, and dripped on my carpet. My whole room smells like burned berries. Help?

I’m guessing at this but, scrape off the wax from the carpet or use a low-heat iron and paper towel to absorb the wax. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet to absorb odor, and if you can, wash any curtains, bed linens and such and use some febreeze. Hope you find something that works!

hamsters and possible poisoning by candle wax?

i have a hamster i adopted its about a year and a half old,hes a russian dwarf dead cute.about a week ago i had a small christmas party and a freind moved my candle holders which she thought was the right safe thing to do to keep from setting paper hats alight,what i didnt notice until i went to clean him out 2 days later was the wax had melted off the candleholder dripped down onto the cage and hit the corner of his plastic house roof, i did my best to clean everything out but noticed he had pulled much of the wax coated bedding into the house and respread it about so im wondering if he ate some.he hasnt been quite himself since and i cant currently do vet trips as we are iced in and im broke as.
does anyone know what i should keep an eye out for incase it makes him sick and anything i can do to help him out with his tummy

I’m afraid a vets trip is the only answer for it. If you don’t have enough money to pay for the trip then the vet may agree to postpone payment until you get paid but you will have to ask about this. If you live in the UK then a charity called the PDSA will pay for emergency vet treatment if you are unable to pay for it due to circumstances beyond your control, i’m not sure if they have a similar charity in other countries though. Keep a very close eye on him, if his stools are runny then it is probably serious, if he feels cold to the touch or isn’t as active as usual this can be a sign of problems aswell.

You can pain your cabinets. First you have to get them ready to paint.
If they are real wood, use a liquid de glosser or liquid sanding solution to get the varnish off.
If they are laminate, paint them with an oil based primer such as Kilz or Zap
Then se a color such as Navajo White ( Sherwin Williams) in a semi gloss latex and paint the cabinets. When dry, use a Minwax gel stain such as Special Walnut or an antiquing glaze ( sold at most home improvement stores). Use a soft rag or old t-shirt to rub & pull off the stain to your liking.
I have used this many times and the results are beautiful. I think this will give you the look you are going for.

You cut these to fit and you can have a couple pcs if you have long runners like you said.
They have a “tackiness” to them and they will gather dirt and dust over time and you can toss in the washer and they come back to life and can be reused.

Generally going darker with the trim closes the rooms in a little. We have a double brick bungalow built in the same era and the rooms are very compartmentalised and anything to open it up and make it flow better is good. We had different colours for different rooms and it looked wrong. Then we painted the whole thing with a very neutral colour (Dulux Hogbristle half strength) and did the archetraves and skirting boards in a bright white (Dulux Fair Bianca Half strength) and it looks fantastic. We have hardwood archetraves and windows and skirting boards but decided to keep them white. We have floorboards and timber mantles and that’s enough timber to colour it up. It looks fantastic. It flows well from room to room and has a very fresh feel. And we can dress it up with whatever we like (furnishings, art work etc) and it looks great. But in saying that, you’re the one who has to live with it so you need to do whatever makes you happy. My sister has dark timber archetraves and skirting boards and internal doors and I hate it. Maybe visit friends and see what other people have done and whether you like it or not. Remember if you get it wrong you’re the one who has to repaint it so don’t rush in if you’re not sure because it’s a lot of hard work and paint is expensive.

That being said, the best thing industrialized nations can do to help the developing world is adopt free trade policies across the board. Developing nations are rich in people, land, and resources. Also, much of the aid to developing nations gets misdirected and abused by corrupt governments. Charity is an important short-term solution. People need food now. People need medicine now. But what about down the road?

Economic self-sufficiency might eventually lead to freer governments, too. Once people have a stake in society and stability, they tend to demand more of their governments. Maybe a burgeoning middle class in a developing country could change things. I don’t know – it’s just a poli sci theory. Regardless, this is why I support free trade.

When you are moving and have to hire movers, it’s cheaper to fill the entire truck, right? Wrong. The cost per 100 lbs. decreases, yes, but you have more of these 100 lbs. to multiply. Even if you get a uhaul and move it yourself, filling up the truck with useless items will cost more gas money. Storage for non-essential items for moving later can end up costing more than the items are worth.

Moving can end up being very costly. Here are some tips and practical considerations for your move.

Organization: Set aside an area in the garage where every family member can put things they no longer want. Have another pile for items that are “maybe keepers”. It’s hard to cull our possessions. Have the family as a whole help decide on what to keep in the “maybe” pile. Sell the rest at a garage sale and call the Salvation Army or local charity and donate the rest. Either they’ll send in a truck, or worst case, you’ll have to take it to them, but you might qualify for a tax right off.

Alcohol: Can’t transport it across state lines. Get rid of it.

Appliances: Sometimes taking your fridge, washer and dryer with you can cost you more than they are worth. These items are large and heavy and could add $100 to $200 to your move per appliance. If you are selling your house, you might be able to work the new owners a sweet deal, otherwise place an ad in the paper and get rid of them. Get new or used ones at your new location and you’ll be money ahead.

Books: Use the post office. Seriously. The book rate is around $20 per 100 pounds. Compare that with your mover’s rate.

Tools: Cull your tool collection and if you are driving or renting a uhaul, take them in the car or truck with you. Tools are heavy. Besides, they’ll come in handy at the new location and you won’t have to wait for the movers to unpack everything to find them. And if you are taking a uhaul, be sure to load them last so the tools will be the first to unload.

Furniture: Take what you need and want; just make sure it will all fit. No point in moving it to find out it won’t fit in the new place and you’ll just have to rent a storage unit or sell it. Try to do a layout of your new house and place in the furniture. Do the math to see if it will all fit. You’ll be glad you did.

Piano: Be prepared to pay for special handling when moving a piano or organ. You do not want to put a piano in storage. Sell it or take it.

Pool Table: Do you still use it? You know the slate will have to be removed and the table will have to be leveled at your new location. Be sure you crate (with wood) the slate for travel. Prepare for additional moving expense.

Valuables: Do not ship your valuables. If you must, you could ship them to yourself, but use adequate insurance and don’t ship anything that can’t be replaced.

Storage Shed: If you have one, you’ll probably decide to leave most of these storage items or get rid of them. There’s no point in moving them from storage at one house to storage at the other. It’ll just take up more room in the uhaul.

Items not to move:

Alcohol – See above

Flammables – including any kind of aerosol can. Items like deodorant, hairspray, spray paint, etc.

Firewood or lumber

Food (eat it all, don’t ship it)

Clothing – update your wardrobe and cull out for the garage sale

Magazines – If you must, cut out recipes or tear out articles you haven’t had time to read, but don’t take the whole magazine.

Storage is an option but eventually you’ll still have to move everything. I hope this article helps you get realistic with the items you need for moving.

Any fine-grained hardwood should work – balsa, poplar, birch, walnut, etc., but oak is hard to cut – and 1/8″ is a good thickness.
