All of the wires should be tested.

That being said…What is likely the case, you have two wires that are in the “push down” connection and one is on the side screw.

The screw connection and the “push down” connection that is beside it are the same connection.

What is sometimes done in a tight box is; instead of splicing the wires together which would take up room in the box the electrician will use the side screw connection AND the push down connection and use that as a splice to carry the feed wire to another location.

If this is the case

When you disconnect all the wires from the switch (Take note of which wire went to each connection on the switch) you will notice that the power turned off in either a receptacle or the lights in another room.

If this happens, then you know to connect (splice) the two wires that are next to each other (Push down connection and screw connection).Splice those two together with one of the dimmer wires. and then the other wire will splice to the other dimmer wire.

My brother Norm has been living with a brain aneurysm for years — and I mean LIVING! Nine years ago he was wracked with an excruciating headache. The doctors discovered that it was from a leaking aneurysm, and rushed him into surgery. After a 7-hour brain surgery, they determined that his aneurysm was inoperable. When he realized that he could die any day, he chose to LIVE every day — he followed his bliss, buying a sailboat and sailing to the Caribbean where he is having wonderful adventures in paradise. He stopped thinking about the aneurysm and lived as if it was gone. A few weeks ago he had an MRI, which showed that the aneurysm has completely calcified and there is no longer a threat of it rupturing! He considers this a personal miracle.

What I see is that he had a powerful intention to live as if he were whole and healed. The seed of intention that is well tended and nourished can flower into coincidences, synchronicities and miracles that heal the body, boggle the mind, and lift the spirit. I’ve created an acronym for the word miracle:

My Intention Radiates Apparently Coincidental Luminous Events

When these “coincidental” luminous events happen to me and the people in my life, it reminds me that there’s more going on than meets the eye, there is an unseen energy that responds to our deepest and most focused desires. Einstein said, “Coincidences are God’s way of remaining anonymous.” For me, they are God’s way of saying, “You are not alone.”

Prayer is another form of intention that reveals our interconnectedness with the powerful forces of the Universe. In my early twenties I was feeling deeply depressed and asked for a sign from God that life was worth living. Just then there was a sound of movement in the room. I looked in the direction of the sound and saw that a tall, thin candle in a wrought iron candle holder on the wall had fallen to one side, pointing to the calligraphed poster next to it that read: GET THY SELF TOGETHER. I smiled to myself and thought, “Is that you God?” The next day as I was writing about it in my journal it happened again! It excited me and made me want to stick around, to live, play and explore in this magical energy field of life.

Another time, several years ago, I was having another “dark night of the soul”, feeling deep despair and praying for guidance. As I was crying and journaling about it, a card that was displayed on the bookshelf beside me fell to the floor. I picked it up and it had a beautiful flower on the cover with the words, “You are so loved.”

I love how, when we’re open to it, just the right words, experiences, and people that we need fall into our life. It is a wonderful synchronicity that my brother has recently shared his healing miracle with me; it inspires me to let go of thoughts of the cancer I recently experienced (knowing that I have made all the healthy life changes I could) and continue to focus on seeing myself whole, healed, and connected to the miraculous forces of the Universe. That’s the image and feeling I want to cultivate, nourish and nurture — that’s the intention I want to radiate out into the Universe.

I believe that the deepest intention of our soul is to be vibrantly present, whole and alive. I have experienced that seeming adversities such as aneurysms, depression and cancer can be valuable and necessary stimulants in bringing about that intention, resulting in the miracle of our full participation and appreciation of life and living our wildest dreams.

These lights were coated by the manufacture with bronze so they would get a blueish patena on purpose. It is for this “look” to make them look old.
However if you want them to look like they did when new, check out a coin dealer and ask him for coin cleaner or use Tarn-X at your local hardware store. Follow the directions and when cleaned spray paint a clear finish to your work to protect it from happening again.

I’d recommend sticking to polished bronze or a bronze and silver combo. Whatever fixture it is, it should have some bronze in it so it doesn’t look jaky. You don’t want two completely different kinds of metals for fixtures normally.

I’m personally not a fan of bronze, so I tend to stick with polished nickel and chrome.

It sounds like you sorta got a collection of sorta failed bulb-holders. The springs in these sorta go weak after a while and, especially in difficult locations like damp bathrooms and vibrating ceiling fans, they can go sorta intermittent sorta.
You should isolate the power and replace the failed bulb holders. These are not usually difficult (sorta).

You’re just not going to believe this, but actually black light (yes, the one’s that are in clubs) make the skin look awesome. White bulbs are the best. Clear, white. No yellow at all, no florescent at all, and no other colors at all!

Paint would be something that fits your coloring. If you’re darker skinned (tan, not really dark), try light shades like turqoise, light pink, light green, light blue, blue-green, light yellow. Colors that look good on you, like what you’d pick out to wear on you.
If you’re really dark-skinned, try beige, cream, terra cotta, light orange, orange-red, red-brown, light brown, dark tan, etc.
If you’re really light-skinned (very fair) try darker, deep shades like a dark rosey color (not solid colors, though), a medium purple with yellow highlights (it’s a warm color, not a cool color; not gray tones in it but red/yellow tones), dark blue (navyish), dark but SOFT. Don’t do stark colors or solid colors. Even a pretty patterned wall-paper would look good.

Step One: Start by turning off the power to the fixture’s circuit at the service panel.

Step Two: When you remove the fixture base on a wall or ceiling-mounted fixture, or the cover plate on a strip fluorescent fixture, test the wiring to verify that the power is indeed off. Probe each set of insulated wires with one lead of a neon tester and the metal box or grounding wire with the other. If the tester lights, the power is still on.

Step Three: Remove the screws or cap nuts that secure a globe or glass light shade.

Step Four: Remove the screws or cap nuts that secure the fixture, fixture body or canopy to the outlet box. Support the full weight of a heavy fixture during this step and the next. Get help for a heavy one, especially if you are working overhead from a ladder.

Step Five: With the wiring in the outlet box now accessible, repeat the power test described in step 2. When you’ve confirmed that there’s no power in the outlet box, remove the wire connectors that join the fixture wires to the house. If the fixture body is grounded, remove the screw or nut that secures the grounding (green) wire.

Step Six: You must secure fixtures that weigh over 50 lbs. (23 kg) independently of the electrical box. If you have access from above, install wood bridging between the joists above the box. Then screw the box into the bridging from below. If you don’t have access to install a support from above, purchase retrofit mounting hardware for a ceiling fan and install it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step Seven: Compare new mounting-hole requirements with the existing provisions at the outlet box. If necessary, purchase a new mounting strap or a universal mounting plate, which will accommodate virtually any fixture.

Step Eight: Connect the new fixture to the same wires that connected the old fixture, and mount the fixture to the box with screws or cap nuts as required. Create a loop in the wires with long-nose pliers, then wrap them clockwise under a terminal screw. Or use electrician’s pliers to twist the wires from a prewired fixture together with the house wires, then secure them with wire nuts. Cut off excess with wire cutters.

Creating or designing a cheap wedding centerpiece is an area where your personality can shine through. Don’t feel you have to have a traditional floral arrangement to decorate your tables, although it is an easy choice if your time is limited.

As with all wedding planning the best way to get cheap wedding centerpiece ideas is to collect lots of pictures of what you like the look of, think about the mood that you want to create and your theme – colour or place.

Putting some height in your centerpiece will add to the look of the whole room, just remember to think about the people sitting at the table – you don’t want them not to see anyone else on the table as they will end up getting moved – which after all your time and effort you definately don’t want.

Cheap wedding candle centerpieces are popular, make sure you check with your wedding venue as to whether they allow candles. A great way to have an expensive look without it costing the earth is to place your candles on a mirror tile which you can buy from any DIY store. Different height pillar candles will make it look interesting and you could then scatter petals or confetti.

Glass bowls filled with water with floating candles is a simple but effective idea. You can then add extras to the bowl in the form of glass beads to match your colour, or shells or flowers or petals – the list is endless! I know of one couple who used pebbles from the beach where the husband proposed.

Remember to avoid scented candles during the wedding breakfast as these could detract from the food and wine.

Classic candelabras would add a traditional look and you may find that the venue you are using already has these that you could use at no extra cost, you could then add your own touches with ivy, which symbolises wedded bliss, or coloured ribbon.

A sweet centerpiece idea is to use photographs of yourselves either from now or early in your relationship. Each table could be different and you could include pictures of those at the table, this could also help as an ice breaker if you have tables of mixed friends or relatives.

Or you could frame a love poem or a special phrase.

If you have an open attic above this room then i would do it the right way, this would instantly cut the cost down to higher an electrician.

also an electrician could probably pick up power from the wall sconces to power recessed lighting a skilled guy could do this with minimal damage to the plaster/drywall.

I have 6 solar lights in my front yard. I find that the contact between the batteries and the light gets tarnished very easy and the light doesn’t work. I remove the batteries, polish the end and the tabs they connect with in the light and things work fine until the next time. When the tarnish builds up the batteries don’t charge well because of the extra resistance and the light dies in the middle of the night. When it gets too bad the battery can’t power the light at all. I’d fix it but I think I’ll just run a low voltage out to the lights instead. That way I know they’ll work.

There is a antiquated photo technique known as wet plate collodion which was used back in the mid 19th century all the way up until the first part of the 20th century. A photo sensitive emulsion was poured onto a sheet of glass and then exposed and developed while still moist. Now you mentioned that there was a front sheet, meaning that more than one sheet of glass was used which makes sense. When you do wet plate collodions it is really important that the glass is as free from defects as possible, grooves or scratches would make the pouring process a living nightmare(trust me I have tried collodion, and it is by far one of the hardest techniques I have tried. Dagguereotypes especially using the Bequerrel process is much easier) Anyhow it sounds like the person sandwhiched over the top of the photo a sheet of etched glass, which is not standard practice in wet plate collodion, but the artists own touch of creativity. The only other process I could imagine this to be is a new type of Woodbury process using glass instead of porcelain, but without seeing the image, I couldnt tell you which process was used.

Also, remember not to touch the new bulb with your bare hands. The oils on your hands will rub onto the bulb and cause it to have “hot spots” and burn out faster. In very low light, you may not be able to focus and you may have your camera set so that it will not release the shutter unless the camera is able to focus. You can set your lens to “M” as well as putting the switch on the camera body right near the lens mount to “M” instead of “M/A.” If it’s pitch black, you will have trouble focusing, so carry a flashlight or use some other light to enable you to focus manually on the subject.

Bowl blanks are the heart of woodturning a bowl, whether salad or soup. While they are often for sale, they are simple to cut for yourself. Here are a few things to look for when looking for a bowl blank.

When buying a bowl blank it is best to see it yourself. Choose one with the ends well sealed. Usually this will be a layer of wax, generally applied as an emulsion and let dry. The reason it has been sealed is it has been cut from green or wet wood. As wet wood dries it has a tendency to crack. Drying has to be slowed down to reduce tension in the changing wood. Most of the water in the wood leaves through the ends so these are the parts that are sealed. Wax does not stop the water, it merely slows it down and allows the tension in the drying wood to relax without splitting.

Having this in mind, examine the ends of the bowl blank for checks and splits. Some blanks are cut longer than wide and short checks are alright but deep ones will have to be cut or turned away. Also, bowl blanks are usually cut square or rectangular and the wast corners or lengths will be cut away along with any checks that may be there.

Choose a blank large enough to turn the bowl you desire. This is not always possible because larger pieces check and split more easily than small ones and distributors tend to have a maximum size they are willing to risk. In the case of exotic woods this is even more the case. Their density and sometimes oiliness make them more susceptible to uneven drying and splitting.

In the case of domestic woods you may be able to find a more amenable source in local mills and wood cutters. They may be willing to cut a log through the center for you and then to length. If so, be sure to have them cut a bit long and seal the ends with wax as soon as possible. Many areas have people who cut trees down which are in the way or have died on people’s lawns. Often they own band saw mills and are quite prepared to do the preparation for you. This may mean that you have to take all the bowl blanks the log can be cut into, but the cost will be far cheaper than imports and can often be shared with fellow woodturners.

There are plenty of ways to buy bowl blanks or to cut them yourself. Each one is an opportunity for a lot of enjoyment followed by a beautiful and useful piece of art and craft, a hand turned bowl.

what could I use to harden wax for candle making?

My daughters went to a fair, and made these candle holders, by dunking a bowl of hot wax( with a candle stick in the middle) into a bucket of cold water. It formed into a really cool shape! they said that you can burn the candle without ruining the holder, because the use some kind of hardening agent in the wax. Oh I love the idea of gold and champagne. I think a splash of color even if it’s more of a muted color would be better the chocolate brown. Who doesn’t remember that sight every week, when his mother stood glowing, lighting the Shabbat candles in the gorgeous family silver candle holders? The candle holders, like the Kiddush cups, are a symbol which is highly recognized with Judaism; always bring back sweet memories of warmth, light, happiness and family.

Why Do We Light Them?

The Jewish tradition states that in every household, candles should be lit at the beginning of every Shabbat and Jewish holiday. Although it has long become the custom that the women light the candles, when there are only men, they can light the candles as well. One of the main reasons for lighting the candles is to add light and piece to the home. Although the minimum amount of candles to be lit is one, it is accepted that at least two candles will be lit – one for Shamor – keep the Shabbat, and one for Zachor – remember the Shabbat.

Who Lights and How Many?

As stated above, it is usually the mother who lights the candles. In some households the daughters join the mother and light their own candles – usually one candle each. There are different traditions as to the number of candles which are lit. Many people light in two silver candle holders, yet some light seven candles according to the Kabbalah and some light a candle for every member of the family. It is also a custom for a woman who missed lighting the candles one Shabbat, to light another candle for the rest of her life.

With What Do We Light?

Most households use white wax candles in their Shabbat candle holders. There is also a custom to use oil as the candles, and if people want to glorify the commandment, they use olive oil which is considered the best oil to light candles with. There are some people that use wax candles but add drops of olive oil as well.

Oh I love planning showers too! It is so easy to go overboard with the decorations and food, well at least I do…lol. I think what you described is going to look wonderful! I like the pink and chocolate brown together. Don’t forget to get your SIL a corsage to wear on her big day. I would put a sign on the wishing well, maybe even type up a little flyer explaining the point of the wishing well so people will know what to do there. (some people have never heard of it)

If you don’t mind I will just answer the games question here too: we always do a game where the guests guess how big the Mom’s belly is. The Mom stands in the middle and you go around with a roll of ribbon, each guests cuts off a piece of ribbon they think will fit around the Mom’s belly, whoever is the closet wins. Baby Bingo is fun, we play that too. We also played a game where there is a big basket filled with all kinds of little goodies for the Mom and baby (like bibs, bottles, pacifiers, washclothes..etc) and each person gets to look at the basket for like 1 minute, then they have to write as many items as they can remember. Whoever gets the most, wins. of course at the showers we do the guest of honor gets to keep all prizes. For prizes we have done little things, like diapers, toys for the baby…etc. But you know what might be a great idea. If your SIL likes to be pampered, you could get her a certificate to get a pedicure or a manicure and give her that for the prize to all the games you play, even a massage, before or after the baby is born.
