I have a goose down “feather bed” topper in my guest bedroom…so comforting to sink into when I want to take a nap. The “down” side to it’s everyday use is that you have to re-fluff them after use to keep it fairly level, even if the down is sewn into channels or squares. It needs fluffing, just like a feather pillow does. On my bed in the master bedroom, I have a very firm mattress with two 2″ memory foam pads. I got the 4″ depth which is soooo comfy, but when I want to change anything with the bed, the toppers are easy enough to move around. A single 4″ would be too heavy and cumbersome to move. They also maintain shape very well. Another consideration is making the bed. When you have a feather bed, the top comforter or covering does not look flat and pretty. When you have the memory foam pads, it all makes up nice and flat. I purchased mine from Sams Club, and they were a very decent price….well worth the excellent night’s sleep.

If there is an odor that passes through normal sheets, or if you just want to feel cleaner, let the mattress air out outdoors on a sunny day. The Somerset only has 1.57″ of latex and then uses Memory foam with it.

Couldn’t find the specifics on the Pure escape, but it most likely has 3″+ of Latex for that kind of price.

My freind was in the same position but because he had an almost antique bed… The other night, I slept at his place and he had bought a memory foam mattress pad. The difference was unbelievable… but true! So, I have this supposedly really great mattress… It should be, it cost an arm and a leg. But for 3 years now (and I’ve only had it for 5 yrs), every morning when I woke up, I had lower back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain. In fact, throughout the night, there was always my subconcious knowing that I wasn’t sleeping well and the discomfort would penetrate my sleep, robbing me of a good night’s sleep.

So I went out last night and bought the same memory foam mattress pad as my friend. I’m now a FIRM believer! I slept thru the whole night, without feeling any pain anywhere, and when the alarm went off this morning, I had no pain anywhere. No kidding! Get yourself one of these… and if your mattress is sagging like a hammock, then do like someone else already said, and put a piece of plywood underneath to stop that. Then put the memory foam on top. You will be amazed!

Oh… almost forgot: We both bought the mattress memory pad at WalMart. It’s 109$ Canadian (so less in US) for a queen size. I’m not sure if I remember correctly, but it seems to me I remember seeing 49$ +/- for a twin bed size. It comes in a box and is with the mattress pads in the linen section.

Oh.. one last thing: my oldest daughter is going off to college in the fall, in a dorm room just like you’re about to do. She lay down on my bed lastnight after I had made the bed with the memory foam pad and she loved it… enough to ask us for one for her dorm room. I swear…one VERY LAST THING… My youngest daughter, who is 13 going on 14 tried it too… and said she was sleeping with me. Her father could go sleep in her bed! She wants one too.

One of the most effective formulas I´ve found for removing ANY odor was from Popular Science Magazine.
Mix 1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, with 1/4 cup of Baking Soda, and one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap. Saturate the affected area, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and the smell is gone. This is non-toxic and safe for your animals and children, and those with allergies. This is especially helpful for removing skunk odor from your outdoor animals.
As always, test a small portion of fabric for color fastness, before treating a large area.

There are many home remedies for treating pet stains and odors, and let me stress that most of them are not too bad as far as removing odors for humans´ noses.
Vinegar, amonia, baking soda, laundry detergents, lemon juice, fabric softeners, and commercial strength pet stain removers are all great for removing the odors that humans can smell.
HOWEVER; you will need more to remove the odor for your cat´s nose. An enzymatic cleaner is the best answer, but it is slow and may take more than one application. (Nature´s Miracle is one of them.)
The Hydrogen Peroxide/Baking Soda combo is fast, but can alter the colors of some fabrics.
In the end, you must decide which application is best for your situation.

To remove the smell of urine from just about anything, first clean it with some sort of soap or kitchen cleaner. Then clean it with lemon juice. If you dont like the smell of lemon juice follow it up with a little bit of vanilla extract.

The best way to visualize the size is this. Put together side by side two twin beds. That is how wide a king size bed is. As for length, you would have to order the longer length variety, because most sheets and covers are designed to fit the regular length 72 inches. The width of a regular twin is 46 inches.

My bro-in-law built one and it was pretty simple to do with using 3 or 4 4×4′s and (2) 1/2in sheets of plywood. You’ll also need a couple of 2×4′s to attach to the sides of 2 walls. If Sam’s isn’t your style (they do carry a limited number of colors), you can head to Dillard’s or another store that has designer sheets. I got my son some 500 Thread Count sheets by Ralph Lauren that ended up becoming mine (we got my son a new bed, and chose an extra long twin, since he would take it to college.) They are fabulous! Very soft and they have kept their vibrancy.

Online, a good place to go would be Google. This is how I found the Queen-sized pillow cases, as I always use “standard” cases: our cervical pillows get swallowed by the standard cases. I’d hate to see them in larger ones!

You sound like me: you like the over-sized Queen sheets. I usually buy Queen-sized fitted sheets made for tall mattresses and a King flat sheet. You can always check the measurement of the sheets when you shop in person. A Queen mattress is 60″x80″. If you want a lot of overhang, like I do, I’d check the measurements before purchasing them. This is a good price (I sell them) for sure and very fair. That being said if you think the salesperson is “cheesy” and don’t feel comfortable with him/her you should look around at other options. I bought mine from this firm, and found th quality of foam to be pretty good. If you can afford it, go for a 4″ as it offers the best support and comfort. Most toppers are 2″ which I don’t think are deep enough to offer the support you need.

Once you have bought your topper, you may find regular sheets don’t fit. I buy deep pocketted sheets from a firm called Northern Nights, which is part of Q.V.C. They are always made from egyptian cotton, and are made bigger to accommodate extra depth on your mattress.

That would depend on your pump weather or not inflating can be accomplished. But the question arises, why would you need to be on the mattress when inflating, that makes the pump work so much harder and slows the process. If it isn’t firm enough, put in more air, it’s a no brainier.

Although durable closed-cell polyurethane foam was apparently a German creation during wartime, open-cell or ‘memory’ foam was originally developed by NASA scientists in the United States. That original formulation was further improved upon, initially, by a Swedish company now known as Tempur-Pedic, which also patented their formulation. First used commercially as a medical aid for certain difficult cases, this company later spearheaded the retail sale of memory foam bedding to households around the world.

Nowadays, high quality memory foam is also manufactured by numerous reputable companies in the United States and around the world. And, with its broad appeal in the marketplace, it’s no wonder the Chinese have been working to take on the market by improving their products and offering them at prices American companies can’t match.

Taken as a class, all memory foams have certain common and very desirable features. Specifically, the ability to recover gradually from body impressions, and more ‘cradling’ and ‘cushioning’ of body contours. And, if you ever doubted that little bit of ‘sinking into the foam’, be aware that the additional contact of the foam with more square inches of body surface results in greater distribution of body weight, and reduction of troublesome ‘pressure points’.

In terms of the ‘feel’ of one specific brand of foam, combined with its perceived support and hardness, this is the domain of specific brands and models of foam. US foam manufacturers such as Foamex and Carpenter actually manufacture a variety of foam types (models) in a range of densities, while for many years the Swedish brand held fast to their flagship formulation.

And, what about all the claims and testimonials to the benefits of sleeping on memory foam? While memory foam is a great thing and does help many people find better and more comfortable sleep, it is very important to understand that you really shouldn’t be expecting these products to solve all of your health and sleep issues. There are times when you should see a doctor, a chiropractor, or seek to address the actual cause of your particular issue from another angle. And, perhaps to do both at the same time!

If you happen to be one of those chemically sensitive individuals or an environmentalist, you might be more interested in natural (non-synthetic) foams such as Green Latex and Reflex Natural. I have an 18″ deep King size mattress… talk about expensive sheets. What I did is I went to a place called Anna’s Linnens (we have them here in Texas), if you don’t have that you could just try WalMart, and I bought just one set of the deep pocket sheets. That was enough to tide me over, I just took them off washed them and put them back on, in the mean time I would wander thru the bedding departments of stores whenever I got a chance and check the clearence items… I’ve found 3 different sets of deep pocket sheets all clearenced for $25.00 or less.
