For the millions of U.S. families who display artificial Christmas trees every holiday season, the same plaguing question must be answered every year: What do I do with this thing now that the holidays are over?  For most people, an artificial Christmas tree is the largest of all the holiday decorations that has to be stored.  Concurrently, it is also typically the most expensive item, as well.  With that in mind, the way that we store artificial trees is a topic that deserves some attention.  In this article, we will explain the right way-as well as some of the wrong ways-to store your artificial Christmas tree.

For many people, the easiest and most obvious choice for artificial tree storage is to simply put it back in its original box.  Unfortunately, this is often times easier said than done.  Trying to stuff an artificial Christmas tree back into its original box is a lot like buying a king size sheet set, removing it from its zippered pouch and completely unfolding it, and then later trying to get it back into the original packaging.  In short, it’s nearly impossible.  The other problem with storing your tree in its original box is that the cardboard does little to nothing to protect the tree from getting dusty and dirty.  Cardboard can also attract insects and vermin, and in the event that it gets wet, will quickly be destroyed.

Another potential option for artificial tree storage is to wrap the tree in plastic or sheets.  To some extent, this can be a good idea, though it does depend how your tree disassembles.  Most artificial trees on the market today feature hinged branches, meaning that each section can be compressed down to a fairly narrow diameter.  If this is the case, it may be possible for you to carefully wrap each section in a piece of plastic drop cloth or an old sheet, and tie with some string or twine.  However, if you have an older artificial tree with fixed branches that don’t compress, storing in a sheet probably won’t do much good.  At best, you’ll just be draping the sheet over the tree, and this doesn’t do much to keep out dust, moisture, or pests.

By far, the best options for artificial Christmas tree storage are to purchase a plastic bin or a bag that is specifically designed for that purpose.  Such products are readily available through discount stores, specialty catalogs, and online retail outlets.  Specifically, you should look for a bag with a zipper or a container with a tight fitting lid, to keep out dust and dirt.  Furthermore, if you have an especially large or heavy tree, it might also be a good idea to look for a storage container with wheels for easy mobility.

While a tree storage bag or bin isn’t free like the original box or the old sheet in your closet, they will do a far better job of protecting your tree and keeping it clean.  And doesn’t it make more sense to spend $50 or $100 on a good tree storage container that you’ll have forever, versus spending $300 or $400 on a new artificial Christmas tree every few years, because your old tree got wrecked in storage?  Good artificial tree storage may cost you something up front, but it will save you a lot of time, hassle, and replacement trees in the long run.

Personally, wrinkles don’t bother me as I’m sleeping most of the time I’m in bed and don’t have to look at them. However, most stores do sell polyester, no wrinkle sheets and they are typically the cheapest sheets they sell. There are also satin sheets but these stain easily and body oils tend to leave stains which won’t come out. If wrinkles bother you, I would think stains would bother you too. Then there’s always the option of putting a dryer sheet product in the dryer with your cotton sheets and taking them out of the dryer as soon as they are done. This usually minimizes wrinkles.

I have to tell you that most young men are not too particular about their rooms. If it was me, I would keep the room mostly masculine looking and not much clutter to it.
Try starting with two twin or double beds (depending on room) and matching headboards. I would go with either a micro suede or faux leather for young men in a neutral colour. I would go with maybe a black headboard with taupe comforter and white sheets. Maybe add a black throw and some cushions in dark red or burgandy (leather would be good). The walls would be a light taupe colour and maybe one important framed picture above each boy’s bed. I would choose a picture of the sport they enjoy playing, maybe an important athlete to them. You may want to incorporate a desk for each boy if you have the room. Maybe even wall mounted light fixtures so each of them can have their own light to work in bed or read. Also, keep the window treatments simple, maybe horizontal blinds or roman blinds. And don’t forget to add some storage somewhere in the room. Under the bed can be utilized for this as well.

I would have to agree. A couple years ago I registered for 350 thread count sheets (Marshall Field’s brand) and every time I use them (still, 8 years later) they get softer and softer. I have since purchased ones with higher thread counts in the 400-800 ct range, and haven’t been as happy with them and some actually “pill” or look a little worn (100% cotton, no poly blends!). So, I think it probably depends on the quality of the cotton, the blend (damask thread or stripe pattern which I find “pills”) and who knows, the actual number. But I would have to agree that once you get above 350 it really isnt’ THAT much different.

Popular fabric choices for bed linens are one hundred percent cotton and cotton polyester blends. Alternative fabrics like bamboo and hemp are quickly gaining in popularity. Bamboo and hemp can be grown with good yields without the use of chemicals and the fabrics are surprisingly comfortable and durable. Bamboo and hemp sheet fabric is usually blended with cotton and sometimes polyester. These alternative fabrics can last just as long perhaps longer than fabric produced from more traditional materials like cotton or polyester.

Even a good quality fabric can make for a poorly manufactured waterbed sheet. Stitching and proper sizing can affect how the sheet fits on your waterbed and how long it will last. If poorly sewn, even the best fabric will not last very long. A waterbed sheet that is not properly sized may literally come apart at the seams.

Water bed sheets can be found in other fabric types such as flannel, percale and satin. Flannel is quite soft and warm, perfect for those chilly winter nights. Some folk confuse the term percale as being a blend of cotton and polyester. The term percale is actually used to describe the tightness of the weave with a thread count of two hundred being the minimum standard.

Satin is a very luxurious fabric that is made from pure silk. The weave is quite tight, giving satin sheets a very soft feel. There is one very important caveat to buying silk water bed sheets. There is simply no substitute for pure silk. Some sellers will offer sheets that may be called satin, but are actually made from silk blended with polyester. This may not matter to some shoppers but a reputable seller will make a distinction between pure, luxurious satin silk and silk blend.

So why wait for the white sale when water bed sheets can be found on sale everyday of the year. Online shopping for quality waterbed sheets at a fair price has never been easier.
