The Vinegar Method
Put your towels in the washing machine, using the hottest water available. Add one or two cups of white vinegar. Do not add detergent, fabric softener, or any other products at this time. Run the washer.
Leave the towels in the washer and wash the same load again just as you would normally with laundry soap. Again, use the hottest water available. Don’t use fabric softener or any other products.
Dry the load in the dryer using a high heat setting. Towels should be thoroughly dry when you pull them out. If they’re not dry, put them back in, or move them immediately outside and hang them in the sunlight.

The Ammonia Method
Put your towels in the washing machine.
Add a normal amount of detergent.
Use the hottest water available. Do not add fabric softener or any other products.
Watch for the rinse cycle and add one cup of sudsy or clear ammonia during the rinse cycle.
Let the washing machine finish.
Move the towels out of the washer immediately. Fully dry the load right away using normal dryer settings, or hanging on the line on a sunny day.

I’d be concerned about using just a towel. The shape of the kayak’s hull might not match up well with your roof. And even with the towel, tying the kayak more or less directly to the roof could dent it.

If you can’t spring for a rack, at least get some foam blocks. They’ll conform to the shape of the kayak a little better and will provide a little more cushioning between the kayak and the car. If you are looking for an apartment hotel or luxury vacation condo type hotel in a top spot in Antigua check out the Antigua Village

When is an Apartment Hotel actually a luxury vacation Condo Hotel is a moot point, and perhaps both are the same. On the other hand one is surely apartments and the other villas and studios, but whatever, sitting on the beautiful Dickenson Bay in Antigua is the Owners Club Antigua Village, which is a privately owned development of some 98 villas sitting in lush tropical gardens.

There are Studio Apartments, 1 or 2 Bedroom Apartments, and 2,3, and 4 Bedroom Villas. They are reasonably priced allowing families and couples to make reservations for what will be a very affordable vacation. All prices incidentally include beach towels, laundry, kitchen and dining utensils and maid service.

What makes the Antigua Village different from other apartment hotels/ luxury condo hotels is the Owners Club concept. What this means is that taking a vacation at Antigua Village also automatically makes you a member. The Owners Club was set up to provide all the facilities of a luxury resort but without the restrictions that being in a hotel brings. By this is meant, that you are free to eat when you want, do what you want without timetable, which surely makes for a perfect holiday.

The Owners Club have ‘partners’ on Antigua featuring a couple of great restaurants where members get special privileges. Owners Club members, which means you enjoy golf, tennis, water sports, sailboat charter, your own desert island getaway, and even membership of your own wine club.

The restaurants featured are Hemmingways which is in St John’s about ten minutes by car. It opens for breakfast lunch and dinner, and a table is guaranteed if booked through guest services the previous day, and there is complimentary champagne and special members only meal plans. Le Bistro in Hodges Bay is a legendary fine dining establishment again with guaranteed reservations for members.

For golf you have member ship of the Cedar Valley Golf Club, again 10 minutes drive away where no green fees are charged, and there is membership of the Halycon Cove Tennis Club, and again no fees are charged if courts are booked through the Antigua Village Guest Services. At Tony’s on Dickenson Bay members get special discounted rates for water sports, and there are other activity options that have similar pricing arrangements.

On the other hand you could just sit by the pool, or relax on the beach with glass in one hand, and a good book in the other. A short walk along the beach finds seven restaurants, even a casino, so you will not be short of things to do and places to eat, and with your fully equipped kitchen and nearby grocery outlets staying home and cooking is a breeze.

All in all the Antigua Village is a good choice for families, and you will find the accommodation more than adequate although some guests felt it was a bit dated. This seems to be a common feature throughout Antigua and is probably just a quirk in the Caribbean. There is a mosquito problem, again not uncommon, and the management staff will come and spray but it makes sense to come well armed with bug repellent. As apartment hotels go, or luxury vacation condo hotels if you prefer, Antigua Village will give you an affordable holiday in a very beautiful plac as Dickenson Bay remains most attractive.

Yes, towels are functional. We all want soft, warm, fluffy
towels to wrap around us when we come out of the shower. But you
don’t have to use the same towels all the time. By changing your
towels with your mood, the season or the day of the week, you
can give your bathroom a whole new look and feel. If you mix
towels of the dominant color of your bathroom, with white
towels, you have a clean, pristine, fresh look. If you mix them
with black ones then you have a trendier, ‘cooler” look (and
much more practical than white if you have kids in the house!)
For a subdued and harmonious look, buy towels of various shades
of the same color. A friend of mine has a white bathroom with
occasional stripes of pinky-purple in the tiles. On the towel
rack when I visit her (alone) I find a selection of 14 towels in
all shades of purple and mauve imaginable. It looks gorgeous! I
tell her it’s always my challenge to work out how to use 14
towels in the one or two days I stay with her. So whatever the
color already there, vary it and see what combinations you can
come up with. Alternatively, still on the concept of varying the
shades, if you do not like the basic color you can work to
change that with towels. Let’s say you have bought a new house
and there is some green in the floor, countertops and tiles that
you do not really like. You can buy maybe just one towel, or
even a little hand towel, that is close to that green. The all
the other towels can be a green or move into a turquoises or
teals that blend closely with the original color, but are more
to your liking. Using a color wheel can help you get an idea of
just what colors blend with yours, and which you like and
dislike. You can find a really good color wheel at

you see the colors as you hover over the wheel with your mouse.
Mind you this it is not always possible to “undo” unfortunate
design decisions, but you can reduce them. In the first house of
my own the bathroom had bright green floors, a totally different
color of green bathroom suite, the tiles around the bath were
yet another green with yellow stripes, and to top it all off the
walls that were not tiled were papered with green paper with
yellow ducks. It was horrendous! Nothing could rescue that
bathroom, and since it was a company house I was not in a
position to do much to it. I just hung a dark green shower
curtain and matching dark green towels, bath mat and toilet seat
cover, to hide as much of the other multitude of greens as I
could. It didn’t solve the problem, but the towels definitely
helped lessen the damage. Hopefully you are in a better
position. If you like color and want something that stands out,
you can go with complementary colors. These are colors directly
opposite each other on the color wheel. This can give a very
lively, interesting look but be careful how you do it. For a
while, many years ago orange and purple together were the rage,
and in reality they are not quite complementary colors. Orange’s
complementary color is blue and purple’s complementary color is
green. But orange and purple are discordant colors, meaning they
do not usually “go” together.

I saw a wonderful combination of the two in a restaurant. It had
bright tangerine orange with a dark, deep, almost black purple.
I also saw a bedroom that looked awful with a light orange
bedspread and light, bright purple curtains. I do not know how
anyone could sleep in that room. The idea with discordant or
complementary colors is to make one color deep and the other
light or bright. Towels are a wonderful way to do this, as if
you get tired of the combination it is so easy just to change
the towels and have a more soothing scheme for a while. Towels
come in an enormous array of colors and shades. There are lovely
velour ones that look like velvet. There are fluffy ones,
jacquard ones, towels with lace or fringes, and of course, every
pattern under the sun. Try some patterned or striped towels and
then pick up the colors in solid colored towels. Again, easy to
switch and change. It is also an inexpensive way to decide what
you want to do in the way of paint, flooring and countertops in
a bathroom you are redesigning. Try your color combinations out
with towels and get a feel for how much of what color you want
to have – and once it is done, you already have the towels to
accent it all. So be daring. Look at all the great towels
selections online, pick what you like the best, and build a
whole new look with deep pile, smooth velour or fluffy Egyptian

Several possibilities.. If its outside the tub/shower and mounted to the drywall theres 2 things it could be.. #1 It could be a clip on model in which case you can gently hammer hem and break them off since their hollow.. Then you ll see a screwed on clip which you undo and fix accordingly.. #2 Its thinseted to a small cut out in the wall.. (The most likely)then you have tofix a 2/4 (roughly) size hole in the drywall for each post.. If it s whitin the shower and mounted to the tile Same thing.. Break off the post and chisel out the thinset and replace the tiles.. It ll be 2 whole tile at least you need to fix so I hope you have a few extra..GL

I’m a big brass fan, so my advice would be to go with more of it:) But, with the fixtures being in the shower, probably not many people see them anyway, and if you have a door or curtain, you’re basically free to go with whatever you want to:) I just think that brass gives things a nice “rich” look, and if you keep the red, it would look great with it. On the beadboard~having it up the wall 1/2 way, will make your room look larger, so instead of removing it, try painting it (IF you don’t want to keep the white) and putting wallpaper on the top 1/2 of the walls. It kinda’ sounds like you are going to have too much going on, with the tile floor, different tile shower, beadboard and then adding plaster to all of that, so leaving the beadboard white, so that it still matches the tile in the shower, might be the better idea:) Or chance it, and take it off and “plaster” the whole wall. There is most likely just dry-wall under it. Pull off one strip and peek;)

Towel racks have been used in kitchens and bathrooms for years. Often two, three or four arm versions would be seen in every household to hold the drying cloths and hand towels, which were changed regularly. They usually had a ribbed covering on the steel shaft, designed to prevent the towels and drying cloths from slipping off.

Most homes had towel racks as a standard item and this was the most humble natural drying system apart from washing lines. Washing lines, a feature of every back garden with their stretcher poles with the cut out Vee in the end to hoist the washing line up as high as possible to catch the wind. Of course the washing line was fabulous when the sun shone and the wind blew gently so the laundry dried naturally in the shortest time possible. Indeed my own Grandmother used to say “You can always tell the difference with clothes dried outside in a good blow”.

Then came the ceiling mounted pulley airer usually mounted in kitchens and useful in winter or in wet weather. However it caused space problems in the kitchen especially when bed linen was washed and hung down like an obstacle. Often meals were eaten in the kitchen and when combined with damp washing hanging overhead it could prove something of an obstacle course. Apart from this the clothes then smelled of the food being cooked, especially the aroma of beautiful soups or Spaghetti Bolognaise. Somehow clothes dried in the kitchen were never quite as fresh as those dried outside on washing lines on a good sunny day.

Many times I have painted half-baths, usually used for guest baths… in deeper colors.
Brick red, deep fern green, dark mocha brown.
The deep colors always look nice, make the bathroom dramatic yet cozy.
If you like a certain accent color in your home, you could use that for the walls in this small bathroom.
Paint over the existing paint with a primer tinted to 1/4 the new color.
For instance, if you chose a deep mocha, you would get the primer tinted in that color only ask the paint department to use 1/4 the tint.
This way, your deep color will cover very well.
I always use eggshell or satin in bathrooms. And always latex(water-base)
Olympic makes a very nice low odor 0 VOC paint, about $21. a gallon.

Whilst many house-holders will agonise for weeks or even months over that much-needed new bathroom suite, a considerably less amount of time – if any at all – will be spent selecting the bathroom accessories that are every bit as important.

Choosing the bathroom linen isn’t exactly a science, but there are a few points worth bearing in mind when selecting those bathroom towels and mats.

Firstly, consider the material. Cotton is superior for absorbency and resilience, and if the user has sensitive skin or allergies, then it might even be an idea to opt for 100% organic cotton towels, which are made from cotton grown on pesticide-free farms.

Secondly, towel-density is another factor that influences absorbency. Luxury towel density is normally around 800 grams per meter. It’s worth paying a little more for high quality towels as they will last a lot longer.

On a more aesthetic level, the style and design of the bathroom towels should also be taken into account. Popcorn towels, for example, are a great contemporary towel designed to augment a more modern, city-style bathroom. Then there are luxury embroidered border-towels, which are soft, durable and highly absorbent.

Furthermore, many people tend to overlook the importance of towelled bath mats. Not only are they useful as an additional means of drying upon leaving the bath or shower, they also perform an important ‘health and safety’ function, helping to keep water of the floor and reducing the likelihood of anybody slipping and injuring themselves. Most bathroom linen sets will include matching bath and hand towels as well as bath mats.

It’s also possible to buy individual heavy-duty bath mats, however, that probably have more in common with a rug than a towel, but they are incredibly absorbent. Stylish and contemporary mats are available and they are usually machine-washable.

And let’s not forget the kids. A notoriously difficult time in any family home is getting the children into the bath or shower. Colourfully designed ‘skittles’ towels are available which are made of a soft, highly-absorbent velour cotton material, which should brighten up any bath-time.

Finally, once new bathroom linen has been bought, it really is worth taking care of them. When laundering bathroom towels, it’s best not to use fabric-softener, as the chemicals contained within it are known to make the towels less absorbent and will ultimately be less durable. A good bathroom needs good accessories, and it seems a little care can go a long way to ensuring this.

Huh? I’ve never heard of specific colors for specific uses. That’s up to you. Personally, if I’m cleaning upholstery or where color leaking could be a problem I’ll use white cloths, but after that, I’m not particular.
