It’s been a hectic and stressful day! I rise early and from the moment I awaken there doesn’t seem to be one minute of me time. I work full time at my job and at home my work is never ending. You’re probably thinking that this sounds just like you. Do not despair.  I have found a place to unwind from the day and I do not have go anywhere.

You see, with a little creativity you too can be blessed with a relaxing atmosphere to let your troubles and worries melt around you. This wonderful place that lets me mellow out is my luxurious bathroom. It did not always provide me with this magical feeling. I had to use my imagination and do a little research to make it into my special place or sanctuary.

It was always in my immediate reach. I was just unaware how lighting can change your mood and make your entire self relax. By placing wall sconce lighting in certain areas around my vanity and a hypnotic sconce on the wall overlooking my bath, this room has developed into a spa like atmosphere. It gives off a halo or shadow that surrounds me with a comforting and pleasing feeling. These special effects have given me the energy that is well deserved and needed at the end of the day.

Wall sconce lighting is a functional and decorative piece that attaches to a wall and holds either a candle or a bulb. We can track its history to before the 1400s. It was just a half circle made out of wood or metal and held a small candle. It was only used during these times for functional purposes. Today they are much more complex and decorative.

It can be an elegant addition to any room of your home. It is also a perfect solution for any dark areas in your lighting scheme. Wall sconce lighting looks beautiful wherever they are placed, since they do not have cumbersome cords attached to them. It manufactures versatile illumination with a decorative flair. It bounces its beams of light off the walls and ceilings which provides a subtle glow through translucent covers.

These fixtures are ideal for rooms where floor space is limited and scarce. If placed properly your room will look larger than it is. It can provide a soft background of illumination, highlight focal areas of interest or as a directional track lighting system.

They mostly come in the bathroom. Sometimes where there is water or damp.

They do have legs but they’re tiny and right under the body. This is what makes them look like they are gliding along without any legs – like watching a fish swim.

Its not harmful at all. But if you’re like me and you hate any small creature invading your space then you could always use a pest trap or spray. The spray is better coz you can spray it anywere without guests seeing it, unlike the trap.

If it’s only a border (not wallpaper) just get a smaller “removable” border and some wallpaper paste.

Say your “permanent” border is 5″ wide; get a 4″ removable border and paste it to the back of your 5″ border with wallpaper paste.

Make sure that you paste it on the side closest to the ceiling (assuming you’re hanging it at the top of your wall). You can leave an inch or so hanging loose on the bottom of your border; it shouldn’t roll or peel unless you have very high heat and humidity.

I like a warm tone with wrought iron. If you have one wall that you are sure your bed will be against, make that a feature color like terra cotta or crimson, the other walls can be a more neutral color and then pull that accent color in some more w/ candles, a floral arrangement, lots of pillows, etc.

Hi fellow home decorator! Let me save you the frustration of the pre-pasted borders, as my husband and I have been down that road before several times. Let the border dry out, then go to your local Wal-Mart or Home Depot-type store and buy border paste, or Wal-Mart has a bucket of stuff called “Paste for Unpasted Wallpaper” that works the same way. Sometimes they keep it in the crafts section, and other times we’ve found in with the paints. We’ve found the easiest way to use is to apply it directly to the wall where you are putting up the border (you can wipe the excess off the wall/border with a wet sponge after applying border to wall; this keeps the paste from getting onto other parts of the border as you’re putting it up or in case you accidentally drop the border). They also make a “border installation”-type kit, which usually can be found in the paint section at Wal-Mart. Comes with a sponge, a ruler-looking thing that can be used at corners or to help tear off sections, etc.

The border paste is very cheap (a small bucket will run you $4-$5), and will save you ALL of the hassle. For whatever reason, we have found those pre-pasted borders never work, so you will constantly be fixing and re-applying it to the wall just to have it fall down again. For $5, your border will be on the wall securely, won’t move, and will look professional. Good luck to you!

Well, speaking as someone who co-owns an art foundry (think iron, brass, bronze, aluminum, silver, etc) the best place to look is in your own community. You can support local artists and get their work while it’s still affordable. Always buy art that will enhance your home and life, that you like for whatever reason, not because someone else says it’s art. On that note–if you want to go major thrift style, look for neat pieces of fabric and stretch them on or over a form, find a really neat piece of metal or glass and hang it, check out architectural salvage yards for neat architectural elements and hang it, make a mold from neat shapes and pour plaster in it (you can wall mount it, they make a lot of architectural molding from plaster), leather can be formed into interesting things…check out the magazine readymade for some good ideas. but:

Search for bear mural. In just the all catergories that way everything comes up. I just searched now and a bunch came up. Or teddy bear mural. You can find ones handmade on prepasted paper. If they are the type that you can roll up. then make a roll with newspapers and roll the wall hangings around it. tie with ribbon or string in place. Then you can buy a cardboard tube whatever length or width you need that will protect it. cut the ends of the tube, fold them over and tape them, the wall hanging should have no extra space at the ends or the tube length. make the newspaper roll larger if needed. Places like UPS, and others that ship or mail items will have them for sale.
If it is a rigid hanging, Moving companies who sell moving boxes have large flat boxes for things like pictures, mirrors, and mattresses. you can always cut them down to size. The picture boxes are in two pieces that are expandable. buy some protective bubble wrap, and wrap the hanging before packing.
Also some shipping companies will pack items for you.

“E”s answer good..i’ll add…none of the wires connected to the switches will be a neutral wire regardless of the color…..the neutral wire should be wire nutted in the switch box and pass directly to the load [ lights]…..i’m NOT an electrician but usually you take the hot wire coming into the switchbox upstairs and connect it it to the screw on the 3-pole switch that is “by itself” on the switch…then you connect the 2 screws that are on the opposite side of that switch to the 2 screws that are on the same side of the downstairs switch…then connect the wire that actually goes to the light [s] to the screw on the downstairs switch that is by itself on the side of the downstairs switch….another way of putting it :–if the 3 screws on the upstairs switch were labeled a,b,and c,,a being alone on its side,,b and c being on the other side…and the downstairs switch was the same,,,you would connect the hot wire coming into the upstairs switch to “a”,,,then you would connect b from upstairs to b downstairs,,,connect c upstairs to c downstairs….finally the wire that goes to the light would be connected to “a” on the downstairs switch.. remember that the neutral wire never gets connected to the switch..it should be uninterrupted [ except for wire nuts] to the neutral connection at the light..the new switch likely has a diagram showing how to wire a 3-way circuit…….sorry if i’m too wordy,,dont explain this stuff very often……..dan

Well, I checked out their Website and unfortunately, they don’t have a trouble-shooting section, nor do they say what their wall stickers are made of, but I’ll try and help anyway.

1. Did you wash the wall you put them on first? If you didn’t and there is any grease and grime, this could be causing the problem, especially if you put them on a wall in the kitchen or bathroom. If this is the case, simply remove the stickers and wash the wall with liquid TSP. Don’t use the powder formula, as it’s hard to mix and is toxic. Plus you’ll have to rinse it off before you can do anthing else. TSP will remove all grease and grime. You’ll find it at any home hardware store and it’s relatively inexpensive. Once you’ve followed the manufacturer’s directions, let it dry completely and try to replace the stickers. However, if there is grease and grime from the wall that has adhered to the stickers, you may find you have the same problem. If this is the case, wash the backs of the stickers. I know this might not help them to stick after (and I have a solution below if that happens), but they aren’t sticking anyway, so you have nothing to lose, right?

Once you’ve cleaned both wall and stickers, use 3M scotch vellum adhesive. By spraying only the back of the stickers and not spraying the wall too, the adhesive remains repositionable. Position them on the wall and there you have it – sticking wall stickers! You can reuse this spray when needed and it won’t ruin the walls:
