I threw my son one a few years back, and we used large boxes to make “booths”. One or two sides would be cut out and each would have a different game. Dart & Balloons (this depends on the age of the kids!), “milk-bottle” bean bag toss (can use the little water bottles filled with rice), win a goldfish (actually more inexpensive than you think-use different glasses, vases, bowls, etc.).

You can write the invitation on helium-filled balloons with a sharpie and let her invite kids from school or close by.

On a tight-budget? Cut out invitation on cardstock in the shapes of tents like “The Big Top”. You can fold it over. Use markers, glitter, fun sayings, “Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls, Dogs & Cats”. Let your daughter get involved-they will love it.

First, most balloons will last all day, and longer… they don’t lose air that quickly. If you’re thinking about any helium in them lasting all day though, that’s a bit different… though they will stay blown up a long time, the helium will dissipate more quickly, probably after a day. The only way to keep them up as high as possible once they begin to come down is to lessen the weight you have on them or attached to them.

If the balloon was perfectly round, it’s possible that a “weather balloon” was used, and they are available online at least. There may be other totally round balloons available at party shops too, and many may be fairly close to round if not blown up fully or if blown up fully, but don’t know about that.

There are many ways to decorate balloons. You can use markers but may have to go over the lines a few times to make them opaque enough.

You can use tapes of various kinds (masking tape, electrical tape, duct tape, etc.). Duct tape is sticky enough that you’d want to place it correctly the first time though, because may not be able to pull it off without popping some very blown up balloons.

You can also “hot glue” onto the balloon’s surface strips or shapes of paper, yarn, or other materials or items, but you must use a LOW TEMP hot glue gun (…a high-temperature hot glue gun could be hot enough to pop the balloon, though you could try extruding some glue then letting it cool a bit before placing on the balloon if that’s all you have).

As for lighting, don’t know how easily you could put a light or lights inside a balloon but at any rate you’d want to use the cool lights like LEDs or mini-Christmas lights (rubber is fairly heat tolerant, but those put out almost no heat at all).

It’s possible that you could even buy a very small LED light (like for a keyring, etc,), turn it on, and drop it into a large balloon before blowing it up… it should last many hours, but you may not be able to control the direction of the light (and the “white” LED’s are often a bit bluish, etc.).

If you’re using helium though, you’d have to consider any weight you added.

Otherwise just placing a wad of xmas mini-lights under the balloon (and hiding them in some way) could work… or you might even be able to string the mini-lights underneath the black tape to hide them, but the light would still be shining into the interior of the balloon.

As with starting any craft, the first few projects are a bit of wonder. Until you become used to the products you are using, you often feel you are stumbling along making mistake after mistake. That is why, if are going to enjoy the candle making craft, we suggest that you start making votive candles.

These are surely one of the easiest candles to make and the most cost effective. Because they are small you do not need to buy a lot of wax and initially you don’t even have to complicate things with color or perfume. You can get the color you want by using colored glass containers and as for the perfume you can probably do without that, if you want to, until you are more experienced.

With a votive candle you are setting the wax directly into the glass container and basically the three steps are to warm your glass containers to 110° from a cold oven, secure your wick at the bottom of the container and melt your wax and pour it in. In reality, care does need to be taken to make sure the wick is straight as the wax sets and when melting the wax it should be done in a double boiler being aware of the fact that wax has a flash point. This is why thermometers to measure the heat so that there are used so that there are no fires when melting the wax.

The votive candle is one of the most popular candles used for decorative purposes. Although they can be beautifully perfumed, they look absolutely delightful in clusters and with other trimmings such as flowers, rocks, bamboos, soaps, pot plants and in feng shui settings. You can’t beat them for wedding settings, either as table centre decorations or to adorn the cake table. They can be kept the traditional white or colored to highlight the bridesmaid color. Most of the above suggestions are right on the money, but just to add: if you have an older house with plaster-and-lath walls instead of drywall, it’s best to find a stud for at least some of the screws. For the others use the metal concrete anchors and not plastic anchors. (But to be honest, for something that heavy I’d be a bit wary of attaching it to a plaster wall with any kind of anchor.)

We did candles. Our soloist went to the front and started “The Wedding Song” by Noel Paul Stookey, and while she was singing we lit our candles. I don’t know if you’ve heard the song, but it was perfect for the lighting of the candle.

So I am not 100% sure what my boss gave me…… It’s either this one little candle and martini set or it was nothing……

The best solution is just to be honest. Go thank your boss verbally for coming and admit that there was some mix-up with some of the gifts not having labels. Cleaning a spill on the carpet

ItÂ’s inevitable. No matter how careful everyone tries to be, someone is going to spill some food or drink on your nice clean carpet. To keep the spill from doing damage try to dab it up as quickly as possible. Mix one tablespoon of mild liquid dishwashing detergent in 1/2 cup of warm water (note: you can also use 1/2 cup of white vinegar). Grab two clean white towels. Use one to dab at the stain with the solution, and the other to alternately blot the area to soak up the spill.

Keep frost away from windows

If you live in a cold weather area, itÂ’s nice to be able to look outside and see the pretty winter snow and holiday decorations. If your home windows fog up in cold weather, thereÂ’s a solution. Wipe windows with a solution of 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol (or antifreeze) per 1 quart of water. Another tip is to moisten a cloth with glycerin and wipe the insides of the windows.

Cleaning your precious knickknacks

If you have a great collection of knickknacks that you love to display, but hate to clean, hereÂ’s some good news: thereÂ’s a quick and easy way to clean your figurines. Simply place your knickknacks inside the kitchen sink and spray them with window cleaner. Move them to a paper towel to air dry. This works for glass, china, and glazed figurines.

Cleaning candle wax drippings

Candlesticks – to clean hardened wax off of candlesticks, place the candlesticks inside the freezer for an hour or more. Remove candlesticks and the frozen wax should easily peel off. Wash and dry candlesticks. If you’re pressed for time, run the candlesticks under very hot water, cover your hand with a soft towel and gently push hot wax off the candlestick.

Tablecloth – to remove still warm candle wax from a tablecloth, rub the wax with an ice cube to harden it, then scrape the wax off with a spatula. Place a paper towel over and underneath the remaining wax. Press wax area with a warm iron. Keep changing paper towels until all remaining wax is absorbed. Sponge off the remaining residue with dry cleaning solvent. Rub the area gently with heavy duty liquid detergent. Put tablecloth through the washing machine as soon as possible.

Fireplace cleaning

To prevent lots of ash dust from spreading around the room when you clean out your fireplace, sprinkle damp tea leaves onto the ash first.

If you have a slate hearth, you can make it a glossy showpiece by washing it every six weeks, letting it dry, and wiping it down with lemon oil.

Wash brass fireplace tools in warm sudsy water.

Clean sticky fireplace tools with a cloth moistened with kerosene. Let tools completely dry before using again.

Quick clothing stain removal

DonÂ’t panic when you spill something on your clothes. Pour a glass of club soda. Dip a clean white cloth or handkerchief into the club soda and sponge off the stain.

Cleaning up after a big party

Step 1: gather up all the cups, bottles and glasses. Empty any partially-filled containers into the kitchen sink. Look around for spills and clean them up immediately.

Step 2: Fill kitchen sink with soapy water and soak dishes and utensils. If you have a dishwasher, run your first load of dishes.

Step 3: Grab a large garbage bag and begin picking up party garbage in the outer rooms, work your way towards the kitchen.

Step 4: Dust furniture and clean floors and rugs. Work your way towards the kitchen.

Step 5: Clean kitchen. Take out garbage bags.

How can I remove candle wax from our clogged toilet?

My wife dumped I would say a little over a cup of melted candle wax down our toilet and flushed it away. No surprise, it now is clogged up badly. It can barely take liquids at all, even a piece of toilet paper is enough to cause it not to get rid of all the water.

Meal ideas for a large group?

I have to cook for 42 people and I am trying to think of some ideas as to what I should cook. I want it to be a nice meal in my home, with candles and wine. Now I just need to think of a main course. I am trying to think of something that would be somewhat cheap. IDEAS???
I have a very large kitchen and two dining rooms so I do have room for this. It doesn’t have to be so cheap where I end up cutting people from the dinner. Well Miss Claire, this reminds me of a similar episode I had with my girl friend. She prepared a similar dish as your Chicken Casserole. She served it with boston lettuce for like lettuce role ups with various dips. At the time my favorite drink was Daguerre’s.

She served the dinner on the floor in front of the fire place and insisted that she fill the role ups and feed them to me. This turned out to be a enjoyable evening that I have never forgotten.

Gel candles comprises mainly of mineral oil. It is 90 percent mineral oil and 10 percent polymer which is the reason for the candle to have a gel like consistency when done. Mineral oils helps gel candles burn for a long time than other wax candles that you see on the store shelves.

It is easier than you think to make them at home. With a personal touch to it, they are the best gifts you can gift your loved ones and friends. Candles are a great gift to receive, but when they learned you made it with a personal touch in remembrance of them…it will be priceless!

To make gel candles at home, you need some gel wax, scents or fragrance oil of your choice, candle dyes, wick base, wick, non-flammable glass container or a jar and embeds. Once you have all these materials ready, follow the simple procedure to make gel candle.

You can add different colors of layers in a single jar and make it look stunning. You have to allow each layer to cool done a bit and solidify before pouring the other layer on top.

-How can I remove Red candle -wax from a NFL 100% polyester jersey?

My 18 year old is devestated he got a 1 ft X 2ft.section red candle-wax on his priced X-mas gift.So far we had it in the freezer and removed the worst by scraping and peeling it of.
We are useing stacks of news -paper and paper towel to soak it up with a warm iron.
Part of the wax is covering the white number on the jersey.

I just did some of these a few days ago. I placed the candle holders in a pot of water that reached about 1/2 the height of the holder and brought it just to a low boil. Took it off the burner and in just minutes the wax in the holder was melted away from the sides and poured right out.

Glue pipe cleaners over the animals making sure the pipe cleaners run the length of the tray to resemble a cage. If you incorporate some yarn into the mix, you can string these cages together to look like a little circus caravan.

Add the desired oil color into the melted wax and be sure to add the color slowly and mix thoroughly so that you know when to stop. Pour the liquid wax in the container and add the wick slowly, ensuring that it goes right in the middle and straight down.

If you wish to make candle with layers of different colors, then you must melt wax in different containers and add appropriate colors to each lot. Make sure that the mould you choose for a multicolored candle is tall which allows for the layers to show. Of utmost importance is the manner in which you pour the different colors. Each color wax should be poured after the color prior to that has cooled off. If you do not take care of this then the colors will mix and all that you may be left with is a murky colored lump.

For fragrance candles add the oil-based fragrance of your choice to the melted wax. This should be done right at the end after the color has been added and stirred since the heat may cause the fragrance to escape. These fragrances are easily available in the market and range from floral ones like jasmine and rose to others like tea tree, lemon grass and musk.

After the color, fragrance and wick have been added, place the mould in the freezer to allow the candle to come out easily. Now all you need to do is to light the fire!

I’m looking for a candle or some other kind of home fragrance with a really good scent for spring and summer, either fruity or floral or a fresh scent like the ocean. I’d like something that will scent my living room but not overpowering. Any suggestions??

Through the centuries, whales have been a source of fear, mystery, literacy, history and even mythology. Either way, humans have always been curious to learn more about these gigantic cetaceans.

For years, mainly because of their size, sailors and explorers were terrified by them, preferring to sail close to home until they felt the need to discover the world and its treasuresÂ…the need to become rich and famous.

So to people on land, they either became known as sea monsters or mermaids. The purpose of such tales was for making the sailorsÂ’ adventures more interesting to others.

Mythology even created mermaids as being these female creatures luring sailors to their death by using magical songs. As for literacy, Moby Dick took care of that as it was mainly based on a whale tale made up by whalers.

Another whale tale concerns the narwhal, this white whale with a long tooth that reminds people of a sword. They made that shy and gentle marine mammal fierce. After Moby Dick, the sperm whale ended up with a bad reputation.

Since then, we learn a lot about whales: their intelligence, their physiology, their songs and language, their habitat, their feeding habits and so much more. The sea monsters and mermaids from the past became these peaceful giants that only wish to live their life without being bothered.

Women (and men) are affected by the obvious amount of trouble a person has gone to for them. The boat trip is also more of a neutral situation where both are involved with making it an event. There is also more time to get in the mood to just watch the reflections on the waters to let the mind wander and to relax.

But you must be sure that the other person is not uneasy on the water…and of course check the weather channel even though rain can make for a romantic evening snuggling in the cabin…cosy

Hi, there’s no need to scrape. All you need to do is rinse in very hot water in the sink. Do not boil or they may crack. Discard large chunks that fall away, then keep running the hot tap over the residual wax. It will come sparkling clean. After, polish dry with a little windex. They’ll be as if they were never used! Just on a quick search on-line for bulk vases I found Dollar Tree has an on-line location for ordering vases. I looked up “ivy bowl” which is 5 3/4 inches tall. Not quite so wide, but it’s bowl shape is perfect for a centerpiece and it has a slight neck so flowers won’t just fall out like they tend to do in plain bubble bowls or cubes. (Otherwise, a 5 x 5 vase would actually be a cube, which are also popular, but much harder to arrange in, believe me.)
Dollar Tree site advertises a box of 12 ivy bowls (or any number of vase types) for $12.00. ($1.00 apiece.) I doubt you’ll find anything much lower. (I didn’t check shipping costs.)

Paper Scarecrow: For this craft project you will need paper, a pencil, glue, scissors, googly eyes, raffia or straw and markers, crayons, colored pencils, or craft paint. Draw and cut out an outline of a scarecrow. Draw and cut out clothes for the scarecrow, such as a straw hat, overalls, shoes and a shirt. Color the clothes with the markers, crayons, colored pencils, or craft paint. Attach the clothes to the scarecrow with glue. Glue the straw or raffia on the scarecrow so it looks like it is coming out of the clothing. Make a face for the scarecrow using googly eyes and colored paper for the nose and mouth.

Leaf Rubbing: Gather a real leaf, a piece of white paper and crayons to do this craft project. Go outside and get a nice looking leaf. Make sure the leaf is dry. Place it on a tabletop and cover it with the white paper. Take the paper off a crayon and lay the crayon flat on the piece of paper. Rub the crayon across the surface of the paper and the leaf will come through onto the page. Sticks, moss and other outdoor items can also be used to make interesting rubbings.

Leaf Garland: To make this craft you will need colored paper, scissors, glue, tape, or a stapler, yarn and crayons, markers, or colored pencils. Draw and cut out leafs in many shapes and colors. Draw veins on the leaves. The leaves should all have long, thick stems. Fold the stems in half. Cut a long piece of yarn. Put folded edge of stem over the yarn. Attach leaves to yarn with glue, tape, or a stapler.

Leaf Picture Frame Magnet: Supplies needed for this craft project are a pencil, colored card stock, scissors, tape, a picture and a magnet sheet. Draw and cut of a large leaf out of your card stock. Cut a circle in the center of the leaf. Place the picture behind the leaf so that it is centered in the circle. Attach the picture with tape once it is properly aligned. Cut a small piece of magnet off the magnet sheet and glue on the back of the leaf.

Fall Leaf Painting: For this craft project you will need a real leaf, a piece of paper, paint brushes and craft paint or watercolors. Making sure the leaf is dry, lay it down on the piece of paper. Use craft paint or watercolors to paint around the border of the leaf. Pull leaf off the paper. The leaf can be filled in with paint or can be kept as an outline.

Fall Leaf Place Mat: To make these decorative place mats you will need a roll of clear contact paper, scissors, real fall leaves, waxed paper and a large book. Find some nice fall leaves outside. Make sure the leaves are dry. Put the leaves between two sheets of waxed paper and place them in the large book to be flattened. After the leaves are completely flattened, take them out of the book. Cut two place mat sized sheets out of the contact paper. Peel the backing off one of the sheets and place it sticky side up on the table. Place the leaves on the contact paper. Peel the backing off the other piece of contact paper and carefully place it on the other piece of contact paper so that the sticky sides are together. Trim any edges that are not lined up perfectly.
